Three Buckeye Freshmen Lose Black Stripes

Three more Ohio State football freshmen lost their black stripes just in time for the season opener.

Monday night, the OSU program announced that cornerback Sevyn Banks and defensive ends Tyler Friday and Javontae Jean-Baptiste were now all full-fledged members of the team.

Banks was a four-star recruit out of Florida who enrolled back in January and who went through spring practice with the Buckeyes.

Friday and Jean-Baptiste were both four-star prospects from New Jersey in the 2018 recruiting class. Both enrolled at Ohio State this summer.

In the video for Friday’s stripe announcement, he thanks his teammates and defensive line coach Larry Johnson while defensive end Jashon Cornell peels the stripe off of Friday’s helmet.

Earlier in the day, defensive coordinator Greg Schiano mentioned Friday as one of the true freshmen who could see action this season.

“You will see some freshmen out there playing on special teams. You’ll also see some that are getting rolled in on the defensive line. I think there’s some guys like Tyreke Smith, Tyler Friday could see some time in there. Tommy Togiai could see some time,” Schiano said.

All three of those players have now lost their black stripes.

In Jean-Baptiste’s video, OSU player development director Ryan Stamper says Jean-Baptiste has been “busting his butt during Team Up North period. Gotta get his weight up, when he does, he’s gonna be a pro.”

You can see the announcements for all three players below.
