Ohio State junior outfielder Ronnie Dawson was selected in the second round of the 2016 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft Thursday night by the Houston Astros. A native of Grove City, Ohio, Dawson becomes the 10th player in school history to be taken in either the first or second round and first since Alex Wimmers was selected in the first round in 2010.

Big Ten Tournament Champs!!!!

The Buckeyes scored a run in the top of the ninth inning to break a 7-7 tie then held on for a dramatic 8-7 win over Iowa to claim the Big Ten Baseball Tournament Championship. 

OSU senior outfielder Ronnie Dawson, who was named the tournament's most outstanding player, scored the winning run from first base on a double by Corey Kuhn in the ninth inning of today's game.

For the tournament Dawson had one homerun, five doubles and 6 RBI. He had 15 total hits in the tournament and a slugging percentage of .923. His six doubles and 15 hits are Big Ten tournament records. 

The win assures the Buckeyes of an NCAA tournament bid. 

OSU has won the Big Ten baseball tournament nine times.  Their last tournament win was in 2007.

After a deflating ninth inning collapse against Iowa the Buckeyes have won three games in two days, all against schools from that state up north, to qualify for the B1G championship game against the Hawkeyes later today.

Buckeyes Defeat Michigan in Big Ten Tournament Play

The Buckeyes got off to a great start in the Big Ten baseball tournament with an 8-3 first-round win over Michigan in the double-elimination, eight-team tournament. OSU scored six runs in the fifth inning to salt away the win. Nick Sergakis led OSU's offense with three hits in five at bats that included two solo homeruns. 

The Buckeyes and Wolverines have met four times this season with OSU winning all four contests. Over those four games OSU has outscored Michigan 26-9 and Buckeye pitching struck out 36 hitters while giving up 6 walks. OSU has won nine of the last 11 meetings between the two teams. 

Sergakis' homeruns increased OSU's homerun total this season to 55, tops in the Big 10. The Buckeyes also lead the Big 10 in doubles with 120.

No. 4 Ohio State will meet No.8 Iowa tonight at 10:00 PM ET in second round play. The Hawkeyes advanced in the winner's bracket by means of an upset over No. 1 seed Minnesota, The game will be televised on BTN.
