Personnel Update
By John Porentas

There were very few changes in the depth chart this week, but there may be one coming soon.

Offensive lineman Steve Rehring is recovering from his ankle injury, and according to Alex Boone, when Rehring returns to action he may cause a bit of a shakeup along the offensive line.

"I definitely think Steve will be on the right side and Jimmy will stay at (left) guard the rest of the year," said Boone.

"That's definitely up to Coach Bolls and Coach Tress, but the way it's working right now I kind of like it. I kind of like going next to Jimmy. He's different to play next to. He's funny, but it's working out well," said Boone.

What remains unsaid is whether Rehring takes a spot at right tackle or right guard. If he moves in at guard, Ben Person would probably go to the bench. If he goes to right tackle, however, the situation is not quite as clear. Under those circumstances, Person could stay on the field and Bryant Browning would be off. Another scenario would move Browning to right guard with Rehring at right tackle.

In injury news, Dane Sanzenbacher and Boom Herron will miss the Purdue game. Both suffered concussions against Wisconsin and will be held out for precautionary reasons.

"Typically after head injuries it's eight days," said OSU Head Coach Jim Tressel.

With Herron out of the lineup Brandon Saine is listed as the backup to Beanie Wells. At Sanzenbacher's wide receiver spot, freshman DeVier Posey is listed as the backup to Brian Robiskie.

Beanie Wells' toe remains an item of interest. Wells says it hurt after the Wisconsin game, but it should not cause him to miss playing time this week or the rest of the season.

"I think it's pretty much at a point where it's going to hurt and it's not going to get any worse and it's just something I'm going to have to get through." said Wells.

"In the game I don't think about it as much. There's going to be some pain but sometimes your adrenaline can eliminate some pain."

In other injury updates, tight end Rory Nicol and linebacker Austin Spitler are expected to miss this week's game, and freshman offensive tackle J.B. Shugarts is expected to be out two more weeks.

With the injury to Nicol, look for the OSU coaching staff to do some shuffling to bolster the tight end position. One possibility is a move of Andrew Miller, who came to OSU as a tight end, back to that position after he has spent this season at offensive tackle. In another scenario, current fullback Brandon Smith could move back to tight end and true freshman Jermil Martin could see action in a backup role at fullback. J. D. Larson is yet another possibility at tight end.
