Another week of “big games” and another week of easy picks. Looking at the breakdown below, everybody except Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit and Chris Martine were given a 4-0 head start thanks to Oklahoma vs. Texas, Florida at LSU, Auburn at Arkansas and Ohio State at Nebraska.

Perhaps there will come a week when the most hyped games aren't also the easiest ones to pick. But I doubt it.

How easy were the picks this week? Five of the 14 pickers went undefeated—and one of them was Mark Freaking May. Granted, he only picked the easy games, but still he's usually good for one foolish upset pick per week.

Want something to watch for? Kirk Herbstreit went 8-1 on the week and finally moved over .500 for the season. Is this when he starts coming from the back of the pack to overtake everybody like some guessing-game horse race? In a word, no. He'd probably have to go undefeated throughout the month of November. Still, it should provide motivation for those next in line to not let him overtake them. That means you, Stewart Mandel.

There are two Big Ten Network guys in the top three of the standings, and this is essentially because they pick the biggest games of the week around the nation, and those have been the easiest games to pick. (This is how I justify the fact that Chris Martin is constantly pushing for first place.)

Easiest Pick

Take your pick. However, we'll go with Nebraska here simply because every single analyst picked this game and they all went with Nebraska. They obviously knew that Ohio State's defense would get gassed and Joe Bauserman would target the red coats with extreme prejudice.

Toughest Pick

Four pickers picked the Iowa – Penn State game, and all four incorrectly picked Iowa. I can understand me picking this game wrong, because I have no respect for the Nittany Lions quarterbacks. But how could Kirk Herbstreit get this game wrong when Penn State had moxie on their side?

Best Pick

Let's go with the four pickers (out of eight) who selected Kansas State over Missouri. They look smart for guessing correctly.

Worst Pick

That honor goes to the Gameday duo of Herbstreit and Lee Corso, as well as Chris Martin, who were the only three pickers to take Auburn over Arkansas. The Razorbacks won 38-14.

Best Week

That distinction goes to Desmond Howard, who went 8-0. As an aside, I would like to thank the Pre-Gameday Gameday show for having Desmond pick games with David Pollack. It allows me to fast forward through the two-hour Gameday show with great haste, which is always a blessing.

Worst Week

Lee Corso went 5-5 on the week, which was by far the worst performance by any of the pickers. Had it not been Corso, it would have been me at 8-3, which again tells you how easy this week was for everybody but me and Corso, apparently.

Quotable

“Last but not least, do not do anything your offensive team can do. Not don't do what the experts here might think you can do.” – Lee Corso's advice to Ohio State regarding their offense. Um, I can't help but agree?

“I coached at Ohio State and I love Ohio State, but not in this game. Offensively they cannot throw the football. They might complete one or two, but not very often.” – Lou Holtz. To be fair, we don't know if those passes last week were completed. The camera never followed the football into the crowd.

“If you look at that pathetic Buckeye offense, this should be an easy game for Nebraska.” – Mark May. And if anyone knows pathetic, it's Mark May.

“There's too many thick ankles on the Northwestern defense to stop Denard Robinson.” – Kirk Herbstreit. That's racist!!

Notable

David Pollack was undefeated for the second consecutive week. Over his last three weeks he is 17-1. He was 14-6 over his first three weeks.

The Big Ten Network went 14-1 (93%) on the week, with Chris Martin's pick of Auburn over Arkansas being their only miss.

ESPN went 38-7 (84%) for the week. If you take Lee Corso's 5-5 out of that equation, they were 33-2 (94%). That's worldwide leader quality right there, and it only took six weeks. Props.
