Cincinnati No Longer On OSU's 2012 Football Schedule; Buckeyes Looking to Add Central Florida
By Tony Gerdeman

Ohio State confirmed recent rumors on Monday afternoon that the University of Cincinnati has been dropped from the 2012 football schedule.

To replace the Bearcats, who were scheduled to come to Ohio Stadium on September 8th of next year, Ohio State is currently in discussions with Central Florida to fill the opening.

According to Ohio State, agreements between the two schools have yet to be finalized, but the fact that both schools are openly talking about discussions all but guarantees the deal will eventually be signed.

However, the Bearcats won't be entirely absent from the Buckeyes' future schedules, because the game that was originally scheduled for 2012 has been moved to 2018. That game will still take place in Columbus.

Also, the previously scheduled 2014 meeting between the two teams will not be altered. That game will also take place in Columbus.

Central Florida's schedule opened when they were recently dropped by the University of Pittsburgh. That then led them to begin a search for a high-profile road game, which looks to have ended in Columbus.

Originally, both Cincinnati and Pittsburgh had to make room on their conference schedule for the pending inclusion of TCU into the Big East, but since TCU has opted out of that agreement, this is no longer a need.

It appears that this agreement to move the 2012 game to 2018, even though it is no longer a necessity, can simply be considered an agreement by convenience for both schools at the moment.

Replacing a Big East foe with one from Conference USA means that the Buckeyes will have just one non-conference opponent from a BCS conference on the schedule next year--California.

Ohio State will have eight home games in 2012.
