Projected Two-Deep for 2011 Opener
By Brandon Castel

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Spring practice has not even arrived, but already we know the Buckeyes will have a major shakeup in their opening day lineup.

Of the 22 starters who lined up for the opening snaps against Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 4, only eight of them will be on the field for the 2011 season-opener against Akron.

Along with losing 24 seniors, Ohio State has six players who will miss the opening game because of an NCAA-imposed suspension. That includes quarterback Terrelle Pryor, running back Dan “Boom” Herron, left tackle Mike Adams and receiver DeVier Posey.

They will also be without Solomon Thomas and Jordan Whiting, but those first four, in particular, were a huge part of Ohio State’s offense in 2010. That means the Buckeyes will need some younger guys to step up and fill the gap until the suspensions are over.

We take an early off-season look at the projected two-deep for OSU’s season-opener on Sept. 3. We haven’t predicted any of the major position battles which will certainly be the talk of spring and fall practice. We will re-visit this projected depth chart a number of times before the start of the 2011 season.
