Two-Minute Drill: Morning Session with Bielema, Hope

By Brandon Castel

CHICAGO — New Big Ten head coaches like Urban Meyer and Bill O’Brien were the headliners of the Big Ten Media Kickoff Luncheon in Chicago Thursday, but Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema got things started.

Here is a two-minute rundown of what Bielema and Purdue coach Danny Hope had to say during the morning session at the Hyatt in downtown Chicago. Here is a look at what Urban Meyer had to say.

Bielema Fine with Recruiting Committed Players

* Last year's B1G championship game highlight of his coaching career.

* Every left tackle that has started for him has won the Outland and had an NFL career.

* Heisman for their running back is a goal for him and the offensive line.

* MSU rivalry made important by the fact that the two tight games were a rematch within the conference. Also has a close relationship with Mark Dantonio, which makes it special.

* Bumping into Danny O’Brien and bumping into players this summer, everybody’s been excited about him coming. Excited for competition to start.

* Lack of OSU and PSU as title contenders in his division will not change his approach.

* Denied commenting on the recruitment of committed players. Said he has never refrained from recruiting players who are committed to other schools, if they are interested in Wisconsin.

* Excited to have three new coaches in the division. Urban Meyer brings value to the league.

* Said Wisconsin will not recruit PSU players and he will root for PSU except season finale against Wisconsin. Wouldn’t want to take former PSU players back to State College for Penn State’s Senior Day.

Hope Open to Recruiting Penn State Players

* First time in his tenure they are starting the season with the potential to be a good football team.

* NCAA guidelines on recruitment of PSU players will be their guideline, so they will recruit them if they can help their own team.

* QB position is a strength this year. TerBush is number one QB. Marve has improved as his knee injury has improved and is now 100 percent. Rob Henry also back from injury. All three will have a role in the offense.

* Keys to Purdue improvement will be turnover margin, health, leadership and discipline.
