Ohio State, ESPN Team Up for All Access: Training Days

By Brandon Castel

COLUMBUS — Apparently time does heal all wounds.

Pretty quickly, in fact.

Not long after ESPN had its lawsuit against Ohio State denied by the Ohio Supreme Court, the two sides will join forces for an inside look at Urban Meyer’s first fall camp in Columbus.

The two announced Thursday that ESPN will debut a series of All-Access specials beginning August 14 on ESPNU. The network that is accused of dragging Ohio State through the mud for the last year is being welcomed to Columbus the first week of fall camp to shoot a special called “ESPN All-Access: Training Days Ohio State.”

“To see the scarlet and gray and see Ohio State and see your team play, kids notice that,” Meyer said.

"Your clientele is 16, 17 and 18 year old kids who want to see that. The more they see it and the more exposure; they feed off of it, especially if it’s real positive. I call it flavor of the day in recruiting, and our goal is to become the flavor of the day.”

Previously, ESPN All-Access: Training Days has spotlighted powerhouse programs such as the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Oklahoma Sooners. This year’s special will focus on Meyer, who has returned from a coaching hiatus to lead the Buckeyes.

“Anytime we can provide behind-the-scenes access inside one of the traditional power programs, it’s a treat for the viewers and the fans,” said Lee Fitting, ESPN senior coordinating producer.

“Urban Meyer’s success at Florida and the unique story lines surrounding the Ohio State program will add to the intrigue of this series.”

With extensive behind-the-scenes access to on- and off-field play, team meetings and campus facilities, ESPN cameras will introduce players and coaches as they complete grueling pre-season training across six days in the middle of August.

Viewers will see four, 30-minute specials on ESPNU (August 14-17), a five-part series across College Football Live Presented by Dick’s Sports Goods and SportsCenter (August 19-24) and a one-hour special on ESPN (August 22).
