Buckeyes Projected Underdogs Twice This Season
By Tony Gerdeman

Gambling blog BeyondTheBets.com has projected the point spreads for all 798 regular season college football games this year, and if Vegas has anything to say about it, the Buckeyes are in for a 10-2 season in 2012.

Beyond the Bets has Ohio State a 1.5-point underdog at Michigan State and a four-point underdog at Wisconsin.

The Buckeyes have won three straight in East Lansing by an average score of 38-11, and six of the last seven. The last time the two teams were ranked when they met was 2008, and the Buckeyes destroyed Michigan State 45-7 at Spartan Stadium.

The recent history at Camp Randall is quite different. The Badgers have taken two of the last three in Madison, including the 2010 matchup that saw a #18 Badger team take down the #1 Buckeyes.

Other than those two games, however, Beyond the Bets doesn't see too much trouble for Ohio State this season. Granted, it's entirely too early to embark on such a projection, but it still gives you a picture of how those in the business are seeing things.

One thing that they certainly see is an easy out of conference slate for the Buckeyes. In fact, they have Ohio State as a double-digit favorite in all four non-conference games.

Beyond the Bets has OSU a 27-point favorite over Miami (OH), a 16.5-point favorite over UCF, a 14-point favorite over California, and a 38-point favorite over UAB.

As you would expect, they see things a little bit closer during conference play, which included the two predicted losses to Michigan State and Wisconsin.

Currently, they have Ohio State as a five-point favorite over Nebraska, who comes to Columbus in early October. The Buckeyes will be looking for a measure of revenge from last year's second-half collapse against the Huskers, even if they won't admit it.

They see the Buckeyes as a 21-point favorite in Bloomington the following week, but you don't need to be an expert to see that. They are almost as confident the following week when Purdue comes to Columbus, as they have the Buckeyes a 16.5-point favorite. However, the Boilers have taken three of the last five non-vacated games against the Buckeyes.

Ohio State travels to Happy Valley the following week, and Beyond the Bets has the Buckeyes as a six-point favorite over the Nittany Lions. Ohio State has won their last two games at Penn State by 17 and 20 points, respectively.

They have the Buckeyes as a 19.5-point favorite against Illinois. Last year, Ohio State was a three-point underdog at Illinois and came away with a 17-7 win.

Following their bye, the Buckeyes then travel to Wisconsin before heading home to host the Wolverines. Last year was the first time Ohio State had been an underdog against Michigan since 2004. That underdog streak looks to end at one year as Beyond the Bets has the Buckeyes as a four-point favorite over the Wolverines.

With their projections, the website has also forecasted the Big Ten standings for the coming season.
