Depth Chart Commetary: Miller Listed as Starter on Latest Two-Deep
By Rob Ogden

The biggest news regarding the release of this week's depth chart wasn't about a change at any position, but rather just the opposite.

Quarterback Braxton Miller, injured in the first quarter of last Saturday's game against San Diego State, is still listed as the Buckeyes' starter.

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said Monday that his star quarterback was questionable for Saturday's game at California after spraining his left knee last weekend.

Tuesday, however, Meyer said he's "fairly optimistic" that Miller will play.

Whether or not Miller does play will be based on his ability to plant and move, Meyer said.

Also listed as a starter is defensive end Adolphus Washington. Washington suffered a groin injury during the second quarter of Ohio State's 42-7 win against the Aztecs.

Meyer had originally said that he too was day-to-day.

If Washington can't make the start, it will be freshman Joey Bosa in his place. Bosa played well in Washington's absence on Saturday and is now listed as the lone backup. Previously, Bosa shared the spot with sophomore Rashad Frazier.

After being suspended for the first game of the season, corner back Bradley Roby has done enough to get back in Meyer's good graces. Roby is now listed as the top guy at his position after sharing the spot with Armani Reeves on last week's two-deep.

Meyer had said that Roby would have to earn his spot back, and he did so on Saturday, grading out at 99 percent.

Like Roby, running back Rod Smith was suspended for the Buckeyes' win against Buffalo. Smith carried the ball three times and scored on Saturday, and is named on the depth chart for the first time this season.

Smith is noted as the primary backup to Jordan Hall. Bri'onte Dunn's name is listed third despite the fact that he hasn't recorded a carry in either game this season.

When listing the order of the running backs on Tuesday, Meyer omitted Dunn's name and said freshmen Ezekiel Elliott and Warren Ball were the third-team backs.

Jalin Marshall remains the third guy under the H position and Mike Mitchell is still listed as an 'OR' with Joe Burger at middle linebacker. Neither Marshall nor Mitchell has seen any game action this season.
