Staff Picks - Illinois Week
By the-Ozone Staff
All hope is lost for Illinois. They pose no threat to Ohio State's offense, but I'm interested to see if their passing game can move the ball on the Buckeyes. I'm expecting Josh Ferguson to have some success on the wheel route, but not nearly enough to make this game interesting. Ohio State 63, Illinois 24 — Tony Gerdeman (9-0)
The Buckeyes could put the Illibuck at quarterback and still win this one. The rout is on. Ohio State 63, Illinois 10 —Rob Ogden (9-0)
I at first looked at this game as a bit of a trap for the Buckeyes. Not to lose, but to have some issues. They have started rolling off big wins and Illinois isn't a team that scares anyone with a 19-game Big Ten losing streak. Hearing the players and coaches this week showed me that they are focused enough to not overlook anyone. They know Nathan Scheelhaase can cause issues so the Illini may put up points. In the end though, OSU is just too good. Big day for Carlos Hyde if he is allowed to carry the ball 10-plus times. Ohio State 52, Illinois 13 — Patrick Murphy (9-0)
The trip to Champaign has often been a dangerous one for the Buckeyes, but Urban Meyer's team is on such a roll right now it's hard to imagine the Illini putting up much of a fight this weekend. Ohio State has outscored its last two opponents by a combined 119-14 and Illinois has lost five straight games and six of its last seven. They are 0-5 in Big Ten play and the Buckeyes aren't going to hold back in his massacre. Ohio State 55, Illinois 17 — Brandon Castel (9-0)
It's on the road. Advantage Illini. They lost their left tackle and will play a true freshman. Disaster Illini. OSU wins the turnover battle big. Carlos abuses the Illini defense. Shazier terrorizes Scheelhaase. Ohio State 57, Illinois 19. — John Porentas (9-0)
