Monday Number Crunching: The Team
By Tony Gerdeman

There were 95 points scored and 1,011 yards of total offense amassed in Saturday's 60-35 win over Illinois for the Buckeyes. There were plenty of numbers put up this weekend, which left a lot to be crunched.

… The Buckeyes already have six players who have rushed for over 200 yards this season. That's the most they've had since 1983, when six players rushed for over 200 yards then as well. The only other year in that span when they've had even five was 1991. Here's the breakdown since then: 2012 through 2009 – 4; 2008 – 3; 2007 – 3; 2006 – 3; 2005 – 2; 2004 – 4; 2003 – 3; 2002 – 4; 2001 – 2; 2000 – 2; 1999 – 3; 1998 – 2; 1997 – 4; 1996 – 3; 1995 – 2; 1994 – 3; 1993 – 3; 1992 – 4; 1991 – 5; 1990 – 4; 1989 – 3; 1988 – 3; 1987 – 4; 1986 – 3; 1985 – 4; 1984 – 2; 1983 – 6.

… Ohio State's 19.2 points per game in the first quarter this season are more than 13 teams are scoring for an entire game this season. Their 26 touchdowns in the first quarter are more than 19 teams have scored all season long, including teams such as Florida, Arkansas and Purdue.

… The Buckeyes are fourth in the nation in scoring, averaging 49.4 points per game. The all-time high at Ohio State is 42.5 points per game. They need to average just 25.6 points per game over their final four contests to set a new record.

… The 494 points Ohio State has scored this season are second-most all-time in school history. The record is 504 by the 1998 team. The Buckeyes would need to score just 2.6 points per game over their next four games to set a new record.

… Ohio State's 67 touchdowns is already a school record, breaking the old record of 64 touchdowns scored in 1995.

… The Buckeyes are still on pace to break the school record for touchdown passes. They currently have 31 and the record is 33 set in 1995.

… At Ohio State's current pace, they will rush for 4,411 yards, which would also be a school record, shattering the 4,199 yards in 1974. That is the only time in school history when the Buckeyes have rushed for over 4,000 yards in a season.

… Ohio State is averaging 6.82 yards per carry. The school record is 5.7 in 1974. The 6.82 is second in the nation behind Wisconsin's 7.01.

… The Buckeyes gave up their first two runs of 20 yards or more this season. That's the fewest in the nation. Alabama has given up three.

… Ohio State's 103 runs of 10 yards or more is third in the nation behind Auburn and New Mexico. The Buckeyes' number is 22 more than Oregon and 28 more than Baylor.

… Ohio State is fifth in the nation in sacks with 32.

… The Buckeyes are averaging 536.9 yards of offense per game, which is sixth in the nation. The school record is 497.5 in 1998. They are averaging 7.15 yards per play – the school record is 6.62 yards per play in 1995.

… After the Illinois game, Ohio State is now 13th in the nation in scoring defense, allowing 18.8 points per game. That number is good for fourth in the Big Ten.

… Ohio State is fifth in the nation in rush defense, allowing just 92.6 yards rushing per game. That is good for second in the conference behind Michigan State's 57.3 yards per game.

… The Buckeyes are allowing just 2.86 yards per carry, which is third in the nation behind Michigan State and Louisville.

… Ohio State is 10th in the nation in total defense, allowing 322.5 yards per game. They are one of two teams (Florida State) in the top 10 in both offense and defense nationally.

… The Buckeyes have scored 15 more touchdowns than anybody else in the Big Ten, and 25 more than Michigan.
