Urban Meyer Will Appear on “Gridiron Outdoors” with Son Nate
By Brandon Castel
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Urban Meyer may be an Ohio boy at heart, but Ohio State’s first-year head coach picked up a few new tricks during his six years in the Sunshine State.
While most of his time was spent agonizing over the pursuit of perfection and two crystal footballs at the University of Florida, Meyer also learned his way around the open ocean. Meyer also learned a thing or two about the water from his days as a young lad on the shores of Lake Erie, and now he’s going to show a little bit of that off during his appearance on the second season of Outdoor Channel’s “Gridiron Outdoors.”
The show, hosted by former Cal and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Mike Pawlawski, features current and retired football players/coaches who are taking their game off the gridiron and into the wild, or onto the water, to experience the adventures of hunting and fishing.
“Urban offers insight into why he came back to coach, the passion he has to coach college athletes and what it truly means to ‘get away,’ ” the show claims.
“The episode is about more than just fishing as a sport; it captures how the spirit of the outdoors brings families closer.”
The second episode of season two – which airs in primetime Saturday, January 12 at 7:30 p.m. ET – will feature Meyer, along with his son Nate, chartering a boat onto the emerald waters of Key West. They tangoed with shark, barracuda, black jack, grouper and tarpon during their fishing trip – which took place during the Meyer’s vacation over the summer – as a way of showing off a whole new side of one of America’s top college football coaches.
The show also features episodes with Minnesota Vikings fullback Jerome Felton catching shark in Key West, Browns Pro Bowl center Alex Mack learning to billfish in Guatemala and Super Bowl linebacker Scott Fujita fly fishing in Idaho.
The Urban Meyer episode can actually be seen at various days/times throughout the week, including Tuesday, January 8th at 12 p.m. ET; Friday, January 11th at 6 a.m. ET; and Saturday, January 12th at 7:30 a.m. ET.
