Ohio State Reveals 2016 and 2017 Conference Schedules
By Tony Gerdeman

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Big Ten announced the conference football schedules for 2016 and 2017 on Thursday, revealing a quite difficult slate of games for the Buckeyes in 2016.

With conference realignment taking place next season, and the Big Ten moving to a nine-game conference schedule beginning in 2016, football schedules are going to be getting a little bit tougher for all involved.

With the conference schedules being revealed, Ohio State's 2016 schedule is now complete. However, they still need to schedule a home non-conference game for 2017.

The 2016 Schedule
Sept. 3 vs Bowling Green
Sept. 10 vs Tulsa
Sept. 17 at Oklahoma
Oct. 1 vs Rutgers
Oct. 8 vs Indiana
Oct. 15 at Wisconsin
Oct. 22 at Penn State
Oct. 29 vs Northwestern
Nov. 5 at Maryland
Nov. 12 vs Nebraska
Nov. 19 at Michigan State
Nov. 26 vs Michigan

Ohio State will play the other six teams in the East Division, but then they get the likely three best teams from the West Division in Wisconsin, Northwestern and Nebraska. The conference did them no favors in terms of opponents in 2016, but at least they get to start out with five conference home games in the first year of this new system. They will also have to play their entire conference schedule without the benefit of a bye week.

The 2017 Schedule
Sept. 2 at Indiana
Sept. 9 TBA
Sept. 16 vs Oklahoma
Sept. 23 at North Carolina
Sept. 30 at Rutgers
Oct. 7 vs Maryland
Oct. 14 at Nebraska
Oct. 21 Bye
Oct. 28 vs Penn State
Nov. 4 at Iowa
Nov. 11 vs Michigan State
Nov. 18 vs Illinois
Nov. 25 at Michigan

In 2017, the Buckeyes will open their season against a Big Ten opponent for the first time since 1976 when they defeated Michigan State 49-21. Ohio State has repeatedly said that they need to have seven home games for budget purposes, but in order to do that, they would have to alter the home and home series with North Carolina. While the 2017 schedule loses Wisconsin and Northwestern, they still keep Nebraska. The Sept. 9 date will likely be filled by a paycheck-cashing whipping boy, as Ohio State already has two quality BCS opponents scheduled.
