Braxton Miller on Maxwell Award Watch List
By Tony Gerdeman

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State senior quarterback Braxton Miller was one of 76 players named to the Maxwell Award Watch List on Monday.

The Maxwell Award is given annually to the College Football Player of the Year and was first handed out by the Maxwell Football Club in 1937.

Miller already owns more Big Ten awards and accolades than any player in conference history, but he is also a candidate for several top notional awards. He is a two-time Silver Football Award winner, which the Chicago Tribune gives annually to the Big Ten's best football player.

Last season Miller threw for 2,094 yards and he rushed for 1,068 yards, accounting for 36 total touchdowns while missing three games. Miller has 5,292 career passing yards and 52 touchdown passes to his credit. He has also rushed for 3,054 yards and 32 touchdowns in his three seasons as the Buckeyes' quarterback.

Four Buckeyes have won the award in the past, beginning with Howard "Hopalong" Cassady in 1955. Bob Ferguson won the award in 1961, and Archie Griffin was up next in 1975. Eddie George was the last Buckeye to win the award in 1995.

Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced November 3, 2014, while the three finalists will be unveiled November 24, 2014. The winner of the 2014 Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on December 11, 2014.

The formal presentation of the award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Revel Casino Hotel Atlantic City on March 6, 2015.

The watch list candidates have been chosen by the Maxwell Football Club's selection committee, which analyzes both past performance and future potential. The Club reserves the right to make additions and deletions to these lists as the 2014 season unfolds. All members of the Maxwell Football Club, NCAA sports information directors, FBS head coaches and selected national media are eligible to vote for the awards.
