Per Report, OSU Safety Jayme Thompson Transferring
By Tony Gerdeman

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Redshirt freshman safety Jayme Thompson is transferring from Ohio State per a report from BuckeyeGrove.com. According to the report, Thompson has asked for, and been granted, his release from OSU.

Ohio State has not yet confirmed the move, but Thompson's father has confirmed the decision to Buckeye Grove's Marc Givler.

Thompson, from Toledo, redshirted as a true freshman last season following a significant ankle injury in fall camp. While no schools have been announced as transfer destinations, Rivals reports that he will be visiting Kentucky for their spring game.

Thompson participated in spring practice for the Buckeyes this past month, working with the second team following an injury to starter Vonn Bell.

The move leaves an already thin group of OSU safeties even thinner, though Bell is expected back from his injury prior to summer workouts.

Ohio State will have two freshmen safeties enrolling in the summer in Erick Smith and Malik Hooker. Smith is expected to be inserted into the depth chart immediately. Hooker is relatively new to football, but his athleticism could help to straighten out his learning curve a bit.

Here is what the Ohio State safety depth chart looks like heading into the summer:

SS #23 Tyvis Powell rSo
#20 Ron Tanner  - OR -                rJr
NA Erick Smith Fr

FS #16 Cameron Burrows  - OR - So
#11  Vonn Bell                                   So
NA Malik Hooker Fr
