Another Miller Leaves Matta’s Staff
By Brandon Castel

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Thad Matta already replaced one member of his coaching staff this offseason, but now he is looking for another one before the start of next season.

Having already lost video coordinator Kevin Kuwik to new University of Dayton head coach Archie Miller, a former assistant of Matta’s at Ohio State, the Buckeyes will now be looking for a replacement for his brother, Brandon Miller.

“We wish the Miller family well. Brandon has been a significant part of Ohio State's success the last several years and he will be missed,” a university spokesperson told the-Ozone Friday.

One of Matta’s top assistants for the last half-decade, Miller decided Thursday to resign his position at Ohio State in order to spend more time with his family.

“Best Wishes to OSU Basketball assistant Brandon Miller,” Ohio State forward Jared Sullinger posted on his personal Twitter account after Miller met with the team earlier in the day.

“Leaving The game to spend time with his family.”

The 32-year old Miller is a graduate of Butler University where he spent one season as an assistant coach between two stints at Ohio State. After graduating from Butler in 2003, Miller was hired by Matta in 2005 as the new director of basketball operations and video coordinator.

He returned to Columbus in 2008 as a full time assistant with the Buckeyes after a brief stint at his alma mater.

His sudden resignation leaves the Buckeyes with a second coaching vacancy this summer. Matta already filled Kuwik’s position as video coordinator with former Duke point guard Greg Paulus.

Only 24 years old, and just three years removed from his playing days under coach Mike Krzyzewski, Paulus spent last season as an assistant coach at the Naval Academy under head coach Billy Lange. That came after a one-year stint as a quarterback at Syracuse University.

The departure of Miller leaves the Buckeyes with just two remaining assistants in Jeff Boals and Dave Dickerson. Dickerson was hired prior to last season to replace Alan Major, who took the head coaching job at UNC Charlotte.

Ohio State would not comment on plans to replace Miller before next season.
