Men's Basketball
the-Ozone Staff Picks - OSU vs. Iowa
|by The-Ozone Staff

In regards to Iowa coach Fran McCaffery, who will return from his one-game suspension Sunday against the Buckeyes, Thad Matta said he once purposefully tried to get a technical foul called on himself to fire up his team while coach at Xavier. He shouldn't have to resort to that against Iowa with his team coming off its first loss of the season. Ohio State 71, Iowa 66 — Rob Ogden (1-0)

Iowa allows quite a few points, but depending upon how Ohio State shoots, the Buckeyes aren't necessarily guaranteed to score a bunch of points. LaQuinton Ross will need to respond, and given the Hawkeye defensive lapses, he should be fine. I can't see the Buckeyes losing this one at home, but the Hawkeyes are talented at a lot of different positions. This one won't be easy. Ohio State 74, Iowa 71 Tony Gerdeman (1-0)

The Buckeyes showed grit and toughness to come from behind on the road against Michigan State. It didn't result in the win, but it showed a lot about this team's heart and desire. Back at home they shouldn't go through as rough of a stretch offensively. Iowa is a legit Big Ten team and will make things tough on OSU. It's hard to win on the road in this conference so Ohio State takes a close one.
Ohio State 68, Iowa 62 Patrick Murphy (1-0)

Iowa has already played some big games this season, including a 75-71 loss at Wisconsin where the Hawkeyes looked like the better team for 30 minutes. Aaron White is averaging more than 13 points per game and shooting 65% from the floor, but the Buckeyes have proven they can play elite-level defense when they want to. Ohio State will face a scare, but it's hard to see them losing this one at home. Ohio State 68, Iowa 63 —Brandon Castel

Iowa likes to score, and will probably score more on the Buckeyes than a lot of other teams will this year. Still, the Buckeyes are at home, and the OSU backcourt should be the difference in this game, particularly Aaron Craft and Shannon Scott. Amir Williams is also a good defensive matchup against the Hawkeyes. Ohio State 76, Iowa 71 — John Porentas
