Staff Picks: OSU vs. Purdue
By the-Ozone Staff
A.J. Hammons dominated the last time these two teams met, and the same might be the case Saturday. But Ohio State can’t afford to lose this one. Plus, I refuse to give Gerd the chance to catch me. Ohio State 74, Purdue 63 – Rob Ogden (3-5)
It has not been a very good month for Purdue, which needed a three-overtime win over Minnesota to stop a four-game losing streak. Even in their wins they haven't played well. The Buckeyes, meanwhile, have seemingly stopped their skid. Aaron Craft looks to be heating up for the stretch run, and the new lineup with Shannon Scott coming off the bench has been working to this point. The only question about this game is whether or not Rob Ogden will again go against the rest of us, which would find him picking against the Buckeyes this time. Ohio State 71, Purdue 59 – Tony Gerdeman (2-6)
The Buckeyes are coming off back-to-back road wins at Wisconsin and Iowa, but it would be just like this team to drop a winable game at home against Purdue. The Boilers had lost four-straight games before their triple-overtime win against Minnesota in West Lafayette. This is a team that traditionally plays much better at home, where they lost to the Buckeyes by nine earlier in the season. I'm going to assume Thad Matta's group is starting to get some things figured out, but nothing would surprise me with this group. Ohio State 72, Purdue 64 - Brandon Castel (1-4)
The Boilermakers haven't beaten a ranked team all season. OSU is ranked 25th in the Coaches Poll, so I'm taking the Buckeyes to keep things rolling, but in this year's Big Ten you never know. Ohio State 69 Purdue 61 Patrick Murphy
Streaks mean nothing. That's just history. What matters is the here and now. In the here and now, the Buckeyes are better than Purdue, especially in Columbus. Ohio State 71, Purdue 63 John Porentas
