Football Recruiting
TE Blazevich Could See Himself in Meyer’s Offense
By Michael Chung

Tight end Jeb Blazevich is a fine young southern man out of Charlotte Christian School down in North Carolina who has offers from just about every major college north, south, east and west.

His real name is John – J.E.B. are his initials. Standing 6-5 and 240 pounds, Blazevich possesses the physical build to be a premier TE at the college level, and Urban Meyer’s system would appear to be a perfect fit for him.

His dad played at Northwestern, but Blazevich already offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame and South Carolina, just to name a few.

He also has an offer from the Buckeyes.

Having played in both spread and pro style offenses at the high school level, Blazevich will be ready for whatever system they run at the school he chooses. He recently took sometime to answer questions from The Ozone.

Ozone: When did Ohio State first offer you?

JEB: They were my fourth or fifth early in March or April. It was unexpected and I was really honored to get the offer.

Ozone: Does the fact that OSU has some depth at tight end and Marcus Baugh in 2013 a negative against them?

JEB: That is something to look at but there is great competition everywhere. If I go there I feel can compete enough to win the job. If I do not win the TE job, I could do full back or WR, probably not O-line.

Ozone: You have offers from almost every top SEC team as well as almost every major college program; does this make the process harder with so many top football programs wanting you?

JEB: It is harder in the sense it is a great blessing and hard to say no. Since the season started, I have not talked to the coaches in weeks. I asked my coach if they would be offended and he said they were busier than I was. My parents are wise and can give me direction to help me out.

Ozone: How important is academics? Do you know what you will major in?

JEB: Very important. Not like I will go to Harvard, but I am going to college for a degree and education. That is why I am going to college, I want to play in the NFL but also want to be ready for life after. I also want to earn an MBA.

Ozone: What makes Ohio State attractive to you?

JEB: I went to visit and talked to coach Meyer, they would be a great stop to prepare me for the NFL and coach me to my true potential. Coach Meyer and staff are great, their alumni base is everywhere. We are in the south and there are a lot of alumni – it is a winning program. I want to major in Business but have not seen OSU’s business school. I will go for the Illinois game and hopefully see it. My dad was recruited to OSU and knows a bunch of people and neighbors and has told me a lot. My dad played at Northwestern, but it will not be an advantage for them as our paths in life are different.

Ozone: Does the fact fellow Carolinian David Durham, who is a friend of yours, was once a Buckeye but left Ohio State make OSU less attractive?

JEB: He left for his own reasons and told me his reasons but I can’t really say anything. I know where he is coming from, he is a FB and OSU is not a good system for him. I talked to coach Meyer, I do not hold anything that happened to David against OSU. It is a different path for him and does not hurt OSU. I talked to coach Meyer about David and feel I have the story.

Ozone: What are your top schools? If you had to commit to a school today, who would it be?

JEB: I do have a list of top schools but I do not want to say anything. I wish I had a leader. I have a group I am looking at. We are far away from making a decision.

Ozone: How much time has the recruiting process taken up so far? Is it overwhelming?

JEB: During the summer it is overwhelming. I am a man of faith and do not believe God will give me more than I can handle. Once the season starts, I have not talked to any coach. I understand and everyone is busy.

Ozone: When do you feel you will make your decision?

JEB: Hopefully after the season. I will take a couple of trips before my senior year.
