Football Recruiting
Buckeyes Looking at the Next Geno Smith?
By Michael Chung

Urban Meyer loves recruiting quarterbacks, and he may have another good one in his sights for the class of 2014.

The Knights of old had a representative symbol on their helmets and shields called Crests. Lions were the most common symbol and Ohio State has already offered a ferocious football player from Baltimore, Md. named William Crest.

It is no secret the Buckeyes have one spot for a quarterback in the 2014 class, and they are looking at a number of prospects, including a pocket passer out of Arizona named Kyle Allen.

If Meyer prefers a more mobile quarterback, he could make a strong push for Crest, who models his game after West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith.

Standing 6-2 and weighing 195 pounds out of Dunbar High School in Baltimore, Crest already holds an offer from the Mountaineers, along with Ohio State, Virginia Tech and Maryland.

The Buckeyes would love to have Crest come to OSU as an ATH/QB prospect similar to Darron Lee and Jalin Marshall. Would Crest follow their lead?

Ozone: When did you receive an OSU offer?

Crest: I received an offer from OSU during my 10th grade year. Can’t give an exact date right now.

Ozone: Is it a "committable" offer or "non-committable" one?

Crest: It’s a verbal offer so as far a committable or non-committable, I haven’t gone that deep yet.

Ozone: What are your top 5 schools?

Crest: Ohio State, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia Tech and Rutgers.

Ozone: Which coaching staff or coaches have you formed the closes relationship with?

Crest: I haven’t made a strong bond yet with the coaches yet but I have a nice relationship with coach Zach Smith.

Ozone: Have you talked to Urban Meyer and Tom Herman much?

Crest: I talked to Urban Meyer last week, I want to try and have a weekly contact with him or Tom Herman and Zach Smith. I have not talked to Tom Herman yet and have not spoken to coach Smith in a while.

Ozone: Do they say you are their No. 1 choice for quarterback?

Crest: No. I just got in contact with coach Meyer for the first time last week so much was not said but he asked about the team and how things looking for me.

Ozone: Would you be willing to play another position other than QB? If you had to, which positions would it be?

Crest: I would play wide receiver.

Ozone: What are you looking for in a school?

Crest: I am looking for discipline, respect, brother hood and a great atmosphere.

Ozone: Tell me about your family background and how it influenced where you are today?

Crest: My family is my No. 1 fan. If it wasn’t for them, I would not be where I am, that’s my drive: FAMILY. Without them, I have nothing.
