2014 Florida Speedster Likes Meyer, Buckeyes
By Michael Chung
Standing 5-11 and 175 pounds, wide receiver Johnnie Dixon is one of the most sought after recruit in the Sunshine State for the class of 2014.
A product of Dwyer High School in Palm Beach Garden, Fla., Dixon already holds offers from a number of top schools around the country, including Alabama, Miami, Florida and Florida State. He is the 9th-ranked player in the state of Florida for the 2014 class and No. 97 nationally according to MaxPreps.com.
Despite his gaudy list of offers, Dixon is still a little bit under the radar as far as recruiting hype goes for the current junior class. That could change in a hurry, especially if his reported 4.39 40 time is accurate.
Dixon already holds an offer from Ohio State, and the-Ozone’s Michael Chung recently caught up with him to find out where the Buckeyes stand with this speedster from Urban Meyer’s old stomping grounds.
Ozone: It was rumored you called Ohio State, did you? What did you talk about?
Dixon: I called, they asked me how I was doing and asked if I had interest and let me know my role. I grew up liking Florida when Urban Meyer was coach. They told me I would have a key role in the offense if I went there for school.
Ozone: How often do you talk to the OSU coaches?
Dixon: I don’t talk to them a lot. I call the receiver coach (Zach Smith) once a month.
Ozone: Do you have an OSU offer? How high are they on your list?
Dixon: Yes, I have an offer but at this time, I do not have a list of top schools. It is all open.
Ozone: You have offers from Alabama, Florida and Florida State, do any of these schools lead?
Dixon: No one leads; everyone is equal right now.
Ozone: Which coaches have you formed the closest relationships with so far?
Dixon: Coach (Will) Muschamp of Florida, coach George McDonald, coach Jethro Franklin, and coach Al Golden – the whole coaching staff in Miami I talk a lot with. I have talked to Nick Saban, but I am closest with Miami.
Ozone: When will you commit?
Dixon: During or after my senior year. Right now, I am not sure about which schools I will visit and am more focused on the season.
Ozone: Will it be hard for you to leave the state of Florida?
Dixon: I will go wherever, it does not matter. I would like to see other parts of the country. I am open to staying in Florida or out, it does not matter, whatever is best for me.
