Football Recruiting
Clifton Garrett Could Be Part of a Star-Studded 2014 Class
By Michael Chung

Ohio State has been searching just about everyone for solid linebackers. They are closing in on a few big ones in the 2013 class, but without any currently committed, there’s no doubt it will be crucial for Urban Meyer to recruit a significant group in the 2014 class.

Recruiting gurus estimate that as many as four spots in Ohio State’s 2014 class could be dedicated to linebackers and the Buckeyes would love to have one of those four spots given to Clifton Garrett, a 6-3, 220-pound linebacker out of Joliet, Ill.

It was back in September when Nick Glass told The Ozone that Garrett had interest in the Buckeyes, and the Plainfield South High School product confirmed that interest in the following interview.

He already has some big time offers from places like Oklahoma, Nebraska, Michigan State and Notre Dame, while new ones keep pouring in every day. Does OSU have a shot at this top prospect?

Ozone: Tell us about your visit to Ohio State for the Michigan game?

Garrett: I had a really good time. I went with my QB, defensive line, and my dad, and it was the best visit we went to. We were our own hosts and watched people tailgate; it was a crazy atmosphere. All the fans are really nice. I walked by the student section and they yelled my name. I talked to coaches Meyer, (Mike) Vrabel and (Luke) Fickell.

Ozone: You told someone that you could see yourself playing at Ohio State; can you elaborate on that statement?

Garrett: I was watching the game, I felt I should be on the field playing; I can definitely see myself playing for them and playing for Ohio State.

Ozone: What have the coaches been telling you in regards to Ohio State and how you fit in?

Garrett: Coach Meyer, when I saw him at the Michigan game, gave me a huge hug and told me he was glad to see me. He wants me to be a Buckeye and play for him freshman year.

Ozone: Do you have a top 5?

Garrett:  No top schools. I do not have a leader but I definitely like Ohio State.

Ozone: If you had to commit today, where would you commit?

Garrett: That is a tough question. I have not thought about it … not sure. I have no idea.

Ozone: Have other schools tried to use negative recruiting on you to against Ohio State?

Garrett:  None of them have been putting other schools down. I have heard rumors of negative recruiting but all the schools have been pretty upright.

Ozone: Tell me about the recruits that you have the best relationship with?

Garrett: I have made a lot of friends like Nyles Morgan, Drew Barker and Raekwon McMillan.

Which ones have the most Ohio State interest?

Garrett: Raekwon likes OSU a lot and Drew, we talk about playing together at OSU. I have talked to Dante Booker at Friday Night Lights camp; I think he is interested in Ohio State.

Ozone: Which coaching staff are you closets too?

Garrett: I talk to Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Illinois, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Alabama. I am probably closets to Ohio State and Ole Miss coaches.
