Football Recruiting
Another Haden Ready to Play for Meyer?
By Michael Chung

(Editor’s Note: This is the latest contribution to the-Ozone for Michael Chung. He has provided OSU recruiting information to several websites in the past, but now will be exclusive to the-Ozone as we look to bring more football recruiting coverage in the coming months. The Haden name is no stranger to the college or pro football world.

Oldest brother Joe Haden was a star corner for Urban Meyer at Florida, where he helped the Gators to a BCS National Championship in 2008. Haden had 10 tackles and three pass breakups in the Gators' 24–14 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners and was eventually named National Defensive Player of the Year by the Sporting News.

Today, Haden is a starter with the Cleveland Browns, who selected him No. 7 overall in the 2010 NFL Draft.

Now there is another Haden on the national radar.

Jonathan, the youngest of five, already had five scholarship offers before his freshman year of high school. With a long lineage of football players, coaches know that the Haden name carries with it excellence in football.

He is a running back at Friendship Collegiate Academy in Washington D.C. and believes that is the position he will play at the next level. Possibly at Ohio State.

We caught up with the 5-8, 190-pound tailback to talk about his recruitment, and where the Buckeyes might fit in now that Urban Meyer is the head coach in Columbus.

Ozone: Your brother played for Urban Meyer at Florida, what did he tell you about coach Meyer?

Haden: Good coach, knows what he is talking about and will help me get to the NFL. Coach Meyer can show me how to be a man. My brother, Joe Haden, is very close to coach Meyer and they talk one in a while. Jordan also was recruited by coach Meyer and likes him a lot, he is at Toledo now. Our whole family really likes coach Meyer a whole lot.

Ozone: Does this give Ohio State an advantage?

Haden: It is an advantage, I already know him well and the type of coach he is. If I go to OSU I will know the system and I already know that it fits me. My brother Joe loved playing for coach Meyer.

Ozone: Your brother plays for the Browns and another brother plays for Toledo; is this another advantage for Ohio State having family so close by?

Haden: Yes, it is another thing that makes Ohio State so attractive. Being closer to family is another reason I would chose Ohio State.

Ozone: You are listed as a running back, is that where Ohio State is recruiting you? Do you have another position you play well? With NFL running backs having such a short career and your dream being to play there, have you thought of switching to DB like your brother Joe?

Haden: Running back is my best position, played it my whole life. No thought of me playing DB. I played it in High School, but the next level it is running back. I have played other positions like DB but RB is where I am most productive and help to a team.

Ozone: Florida fans criticize Meyer for quitting UF, what does Jordan say having played for him during that period?

Haden: Coach Meyer would not lie. He is a very straightforward man. His health was bad and his family life was suffering. He loves coaching but he needed to do what was best for his health so he could live a long time for them.

Ozone: What are your top schools now and who is your leader?

Haden: Right now Ohio State is my leader, other schools I like a lot and will try to visit are Florida, LSU, West Virginia, Wisconsin, North Carolina and Miami.

Ozone: If you had to choose a school today, who would it be?

Haden: If I had to choose a school today, it would be Ohio State.

Ozone: Of the five brothers, who is the best football player?

Haden: That would have to be Joe. He is the only one in the NFL.
