Meyer Will Try to Storm Long Time Hurricanes Fan
By Michael Chung
Standing 5-10 and 175 pounds, Florida wide receiver Artavis Scott has already been the target of powerhouse schools like Florida, Florida State, Oregon, South Carolina, West Virginia and Notre Dame.
He and Tarpon Springs (Fla.) East Lake teammate Mason Cole (who The-Ozone has also interviewed) toured the Midwest during the summer, stopping at key places like Ohio State and Michigan. The two Florida football stars have talked about playing at the same school, but Artavis is a native Floridian and has never seen snow, while Cole grew up in the western Chicago area where all he saw was snow.
The two are not a packaged deal like Texas recruiting target Demetrius Knox and Texas commit David Gresham. Michigan has talked to Scott about being a DB but Ohio State will likely ask this speedy WR to be part of the offense in Columbus.
During last year’s football season, Scott amassed 1,154 yards on 54 receptions with 12 touchdowns. The-Ozone recently caught up with this speedy Floridian to gauge how his recruiting is going and where Ohio State stands.
Ozone: When did Ohio State offer you?
Scott: During the Spring, coach Stan Drayton came to my school to see another player, Mason Cole, and happened to watch me play and made an offer.
Ozone: Which schools have you already visited?
Scott: I went to Ohio State during the summer. OSU was fun and I liked it. I also visited Michigan, ND, NC State, Florida St, and university of Florida. I am not sure which school I am most interested in.
Ozone: You have three offers from top Florida schools, is it likely you will stay close to home?
Scott: No, don’t know. It all depends on how I feel. It is all up to my mom, but she tells me it is wherever I want to go.
Ozone: Will Ohio State be one of your five visits?
Scott: Definitely, it will be one of my five. But I am not sure which other schools I will visit.
Ozone: Did you know of Urban Meyer when he was at Florida? Is it an advantage for Ohio State?
Scott: I knew of him but it is not really an advantage, I was not a Gators fan growing up. My team was the Miami Hurricanes. My favorite school since I was a kid has not offered but they (Miami, Fla.) would not have an advantage.
Ozone: What did Urban Meyer say to you when you talked to him?
Scott: He said he really would like me to play for him and that I would fit his offense well. I have talked to many coaches and they all say the same thing.
Ozone: Does the fact the SEC looks so good and the Big Ten seems down as a conference influence you towards or away from a B1G school like OSU?
Scott: No, I want to go to a school that fits me well and has good academics so if that is a Big Ten School then that is where I will go.
Ozone: What motivates you?
Scott: My mom, 'cause I think about making her happy and doing what I have to do to succeed.
