Football Recruiting
Florida Speedster Still Open to Buckeyes
By Michael Chung

Speed.

It can’t be taught, and it really can’t be game planned against.

Speed offers teams in just about every sport with physical advantages that are unrivaled. Ohio State knows all about speed. Names like Joey Galloway, Terry Glenn and Ted Ginn Jr. grace the memories of Buckeye lore with blazing speed that ran down the field of play for touchdowns.

Wide receiver Levonte Whitfield out of Orlando, Florida, possesses that type of speed. He has run the 100m in 10.21 seconds and possesses sub 4.4 speed in the 40-yard dash.

In one phrase: he is fast.

Currently a Florida State Seminole commit, Whitfield is still keeping his options open. He will be taking visits to a few other schools and Ohio State is going to be one of them. It’s a longshot that he will end up in Columbus, but Urban Meyer will welcome a visit from a kid with the type of speed he is looking for on the offensive side of the ball.

We recently caught up with Levonte for a glimpse into his recruitment, to find out where things stand what his plans are before National Signing Day in February.

Ozone: What do the FSU coaches think about you taking visits?

Whitfield: Really have not talked to them about visits.

Ozone: If you are sure of your Florida State commitment, why bother visiting other schools?

Whitfield: I am still open to other schools, but I am pretty much 100 percent FSU. Just want to see other places.

Ozone: Which Schools will you visit?

Whitfield: OSU, West Virginia, Clemson, and the University of Miami.

Ozone: Tell me about your relationship with OSU coaches?

Whitfield: It was good when I went there for a visit, but I do not talk to them much since the summer. I have the best relationship with coach (Stan) Drayton but have not talked to him much recently.

Ozone: How hard are OSU coaches recruiting you? What do they tell you as far as your role?

Whitfield: They were recruiting hard before but not anymore.

Ozone: Anyone in the 2013 class or current players at OSU that you are friends with?

Whitfield:  I am cool with Curtis Grant and Ryan Shazier, they talk to me about life and how we are doing, not too much football. I talked to Shazier a few days ago.

Ozone: Tell me about Tony Stevens? He de-committed and recommits, do you think he is solid FSU? Does he have OSU interest?

Whitfield: He never really de-committed; I think he is interested in Ohio State but I do not talk to him about it.

Ozone: What about OSU makes them attractive to visit?

Whitfield: OSU has a great atmosphere, it is a good school, crowds are huge and crazy, coaches are really good. Very, very small chance I would go there but I am also going with the flow.
