Looking Forward: 2014 Defensive Linemen
By Tony Gerdeman

Ohio State doesn't currently have any defensive linemen committed for the 2014 class yet. Given that they've signed 10 guys on the front four in the last two classes, it's probably not the priority that it has been. That doesn't mean it will be ignored in 2014, however.

Urban Meyer has offers out to some of the best linemen in the nation, and while many are showing interest, the Buckeyes are fighting uphill battles on most of them.

Da'Shawn Hand (6-5 247) Woodbridge VA (Uncommitted)
#1 SDE 247 Sports; #1 DE Scout; #1 SDE Rivals
Hand is the nation's top-ranked prospect, and has offers from everyone. His most recent top five included Virginia Tech, Alabama, Michigan, South Carolina and Florida, with Ohio State sitting sixth. The Buckeyes are an incredible longshot, and are only mentioned here so that people wouldn't ask why he was left off of the list. Highlights

Malik McDowell (6-7 290) Detroit MI (Uncommitted)
#2 SDE 247 Sports; #2 DE Scout; #2 SDE Rivals
McDowell is one of the prospects from the state of Michigan that the Buckeyes are targeting. However, it may be tough to beat out the Michigan schools as well as Notre Dame. He also has offers from Florida, Oregon and Penn State. He moves very well for a big man and may be more suited as a defensive end in a 3-4 defense. Highlights

Dante Sawyer (6-3 240) Suwanee GA (Uncommitted)
#13 WDE 247 Sports; #19 DE Scout; #14 WDE Rivals
Sawyer will be a tough pull out of the South. Along with an Ohio State offer, he also has offers from Georgia, Alabama, Clemson, Auburn, Tennessee and USC. OSU is in his top five, but it will be tough to get him away from Alabama and Georgia. Highlights

Lawrence Marshall (6-3 225) Southfield MI (Uncommitted)
#14 WDE 247 Sports; NR Scout; NR Rivals
Marshall was committed to Ohio State for a couple of days, but has since decommitted in order to continue looking around. The Buckeyes may still be the favorite here, but it will still be a long, drawn-out process. Marshall picks up new offers each week, and now has them from Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Pittsburgh and Tennessee. Highlights

Jesse Aniebonam (6-4 230) Olney MD (Uncommitted)
#7 SDE 247 Sports; NR Scout; #5 SDE Rivals
Aniebonam has a top five of Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Maryland and Clemson. All have offered except for Michigan and Notre Dame. He also has offers from Alabama, Florida, Auburn and Penn State. This could be one to watch. Highlights

Dylan Thompson (6-5 270) Lombard IL (Uncommitted)
NR 247 Sports; NR Scout; NR Rivals
Thompson is a defensive end in high school, but may grow into a defensive tackle at the next level. He worked out at tackle at a recent combine and excelled. He has offers from Ohio State, Vanderbilt, Indiana and Illinois. It's hard to imagine the Buckeyes not being a favorite among those four. He will visit OSU next month per 247 Sports. Highlights

Andrew Brown (6-4 282) Chesapeake VA (Uncommitted)
#1 DT 247 Sports; #5 DE Scout; #1 DT Rivals
Brown is one of the top players in the nation at any position. He recently tweeted a final ten of Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Clemson, Virginia, North Carolina and Georgia Tech. He can play defensive end or defensive tackle. Highlights

Anthony Moten (6-4 279) Ft Lauderdale FL (Uncommitted)
NR 247 Sports; #12 DT Scout; #11 DT Rivals
Moten was a teammate of 2013 OSU signee Joey Bosa. Along with an offer from the Buckeyes, he also has offers from Miami, Florida, Florida State, South Carolina and Arkansas. Per 247 Sports, South Carolina and Miami are the teams to beat. Highlights

Poona Ford (6-1 280) Hilton Head Island (SC) Uncommitted
#21 DT 247 Sports; NR Scout; NR Rivals
Ford does not yet have an Ohio State offer, but is planning on attending an OSU camp in order to earn one. He is athletic enough that he also plays fullback, and even carries the ball. Ford currently has offers from Illinois, Georgia Tech, South Carolina and Louisville. Highlights

Daniel Cage (6-3 275) Cincinnati (OH) Uncommitted
#36 DT 247 Sports; #9 DT Scout; NR Rivals
Cage does not have an Ohio State offer, but the Buckeye coaches have been in touch. He does, however, have offers from Tennessee, Michigan State, Georgia Tech and Illinois. He may have to camp at Ohio State in order to get a Buckeye offer. Highlights

Chris Williams (6-1 280) Tyrone (GA) Uncommitted
NR 247 Sports; NR Scout; NR Rivals
Williams recently received an Ohio State offer. He is high school teammates with receiver Demarre Kitt, who has OSU in his top two. Williams also has offers from Ole Miss, Texas A&M, South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech. Highlights
