Looking Forward: 2014 Linebackers
By Tony Gerdeman
Ohio State is in on some very serious 2014 linebacker prospects at the moment. One of the reasons this list is so short is because they are in such good standing with their favorites that their focus is more laser-sighted and less scattershot.
The Buckeyes are currently in hot pursuit of the first four linebackers on this list, and would apparently take all four of them if they were so fortunate. They are still working on others, as it is way too soon to start counting chickens that haven't even hatched from eggs that have yet to be laid.
Remember, looking good in February of 2013 is much, much different than looking good in February of 2014. Ohio State is in a good spot right now, but they will need to continue to improve that spot, as there are plenty of other schools trying to overtake them.
|Raekwon McMillan (6-3 236) Hinesville GA (Uncommitted)
#2 ILB 247 Sports; #2 ILB Scout; #1 ILB Rivals
|McMillan has stated for a while now that Ohio State is his leader, but it appears Alabama is now making a push. Along with the Buckeyes and Crimson Tide, he has offers from Notre Dame, Georgia, Florida State, Florida, USC, Texas, and everywhere else. McMillan is one of the several Georgia prospects who have Ohio State in their sights. He will be visiting OSU April 1-3, and the Buckeyes could surge a bit following the visit. Don't expect a commitment though. Highlights
|Clifton Garrett (6-2 228) Plainfield IL (Uncommitted)
#2 OLB 247 Sports; #3 ILB Scout; #3 ILB Rivals
|Garrett is thought to have Ohio State as his leader, and has stated as such in the past, but he is planning on making his decision late in the process. He has already visited Ohio State unofficially four times and plans to be back again in the spring. He wants to take all five official visits as well. He currently has offers from Ohio State, Ole Miss, Florida, , Florida State, Texas A&M, Clemson, LSU, Nebraska, Notre Dame, USC, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech and Tennessee. Highlights
|Kyle Berger (6-3 205) Cleveland OH (Uncommitted)
#22 OLB 247 Sports; NR Scout; NR Rivals
|Berger is one of the top linebackers in the midwest and his offer list keeps growing. He currently has offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Tennessee, Penn State and Georgia Tech. He claims Ohio State and Michigan are even right now, and he plans on visiting both for spring practices. He is a fan of Michigan linebacker Jake Ryan, whom he called an "idol" because Ryan played at St. Ignatius like Berger. Ohio State is in on some fantastic linebacker prospects, but losing Berger to Michigan would not be healthy. Highlights
|Dante Booker (6-4 210) Akron OH (Uncommitted)
#3 OLB 247 Sports; #2 OLB Scout; #9 ILB Rivals
|Booker has offers from much of the midwest, including Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Nebraska and Penn State. The Buckeyes are his leader, and he is the teammate of current OSU commit Parris Campbell. There is the possibility that Booker could outgrow linebacker and eventually slide down to a pass rushing defensive end. The fact that he plays linebacker in high school would make him a versatile pass rushing prospect. Highlights
|Nyles Morgan (6-2 228) Crete IL (Uncommitted)
#4 ILB 247 Sports; #4 ILB Scout; #6 ILB Rivals
|Morgan has been offered by Ohio State, but they don't appear to be targeting him as hard as they are the first four linebackers on this list. Perhaps if they start feeling uncomfortable about where they stand with any of those four, they will increase their interaction with Morgan. He also has offers from Florida, Michigan, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Notre Dame. Highlights
|Petera Wilson (6-3 220) Memphis TN (Uncommitted)
#17 ILB 247 Sports; #18 ILB Scout; NR Rivals
|Wilson has received an offer from Ohio State, but isn't too familiar with the Buckeyes' football program. He also has offers from Alabama, Florida, LSU, Georgia, Florida State, Tennessee and USC. Wilson is another linebacker that the Buckeyes could go after harder should things turn for the worse with their top four targets. Highlights
|Dillon Bates (6-3 220) Ponte Vedra Bch FL (Uncommitted)
#15 OLB 247 Sports; NR Scout; #3 OLB Rivals
|Bates impresses in every single combine setting, which has helped earn him an invitation to the 2014 Army All-American Bowl. He has offers from Ohio State, Notre Dame, Florida, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Florida State and Miami (FL). He is the son of former NFLer Bill Bates. He claims no favorites at the moment. Highlights
