Football Recruiting
Will Shawn Boone Be a Boon or Bust for the Buckeyes?
By Michael Chung

It is rare that an Ohio State recruiting class is devoid of a Florida superstar but 2014 could be one of those years. That could all change if one of the five remaining targets with OSU offers decides to commit. One of those Florida stars is Shawn Boone out of West Palm Beach, FL. He is a teammate with another OSU target: Johnnie Dixon.

Both Dixon and Boone were scheduled for an official visit for Sept. 28 during the Wisconsin game, but only Dixon made it. At the time of the interview, Boone mentioned to me that he was still confirming with the OSU coaches on his official so there was a chance he would not make his visit which he later confirmed to me that he did not, but it has still not been ruled out that he could visit on a later date.

Boone is rated three stars by Rivals, 24/7, Scout, and ESPN, but do not let the star rating fool you. He has offers from the likes Arkansas, Ole Miss, FSU, Maryland, West Virginia, and the Buckeyes and many like his play making ability on the field. He took time to update Ozone readers on his recruitment.

Ozone: When was the last time you talked to OSU coaches?
About couple weeks ago, but I have not talked to them since. I usually talk with Zach Smith. It has been a few weeks and I can’t really remember what we last talked about.

Ozone: What did the OSU coaches say to you?
We just have conversations about how I am doing on the field, about each other and about life.

Ozone: What is your top 3?
I do not have one right now but some schools that standout are NC State, Arkansas, Ohio State, Florida State, Ole Miss, Maryland, and West Virginia. So you could say they are my top 7.

Ozone: Which coaching staffs are you closest to or have the best relationships with?
I would say NC State and Arkansas.

Ozone: Tell me about Johnnie Dixon and the type of player he is?
He is very explosive player, always working on his craft to be great, and a very hard worker. He has great speed, great route running ability, and is very physical.

Ozone: If you had to predict where Johnnie will go, what would be your prediction?
I have no idea. We really do not talk about it. We have talked about playing together if it was possible but we are really not sure if it will happen and understand we could be going to different schools.

Ozone: Tell me about your strengths and weaknesses as a DB?
I am very physical, I make plays when needed.

Ozone: Do you think Urban Meyer still has a legacy in Florida or do you think high school players are beginning to forget he was down there?
I believe he still has a legacy in this state. He will always have a legacy because he won championships, but his legacy is bigger now because he is at Ohio State. Since I talked to him when I was there, he is really focused on winning and chasing national titles.
