Football Recruiting
Garrett Visits Buckeyes
By Michael Chung

Not all offers are equal. Ohio State has doled out over 110 so far for 2014 and there is no chance that all are the same. Some players want to commit but are asked to wait while others are diligently being wooed. Some players need to wait to see how the class fills out while others can commit anytime they want. The later is true for linebacker Clifton Garrett. He recently visited Ohio State for the fourth time then proceeded to travel down to Cincinnati and won the Defensive MVP for the Core6atletes Showcase. Afterwards, schools down south like Florida and Clemson made offers while Les Miles made a phone call. Getting Garrett to Ohio State will not be as easy as it seems. Clifton took some time to update Ozone readers on the state of his recruitment.

Ozone: Tell me about your visit? What did you do?

Garrett: Pretty good, I went to the Woody Hayes Athletic Center and met with coaches Vrabel and Pantoni. During my visit, I also sat down with academic cousnelors to see what I can study at OSU and help transition from high school to college. Coach Vrabel also took me to the playing field and we watched highlights together on the Jumbo Tron then we went back to the Woody Hayes Center to meet with coach Fickell. He and I talked for about half an hour about life and being a Buckeye and life after football. I also hung out with guys like Najee Murray and JT Barrett. Coach Meyer was out of town.

Ozone: Did they ask for a commitment?

Garrett: They are not pushing me at all they let me know they want me and take my time and to make sure I know where I want to go.

Ozone: Are there any other 2014 prospects outside of your school that you talk to or communicate with?

Garrett: Drew Barker is interested. I have talked to Dante Booker but not in a while, he was interested.

Ozone: Tell me about the Core6athletes competition in Cincinnati?

Garrett: Lots of great competition at linebacker, I competed against some fast wide receivers. Many looked up to me as a leader at LB and were asking me questions getting my advice. I am known as a downhill player so it was good to cover some fast wide receivers.

Ozone: Did you talk to anyone in Cincinnati that you felt had strong Ohio State interest?

Garrett: Talked to Dylan Thompson, he will visit for spring game and offensive lineman JB Butler.

Ozone: You had a fairly long visit this weekend at OSU, have you seen all you need to at OSU or is their a chance you will make an official visit?

Garrett: I do not know about an Official Visit, I want to go back to the Spring game and hang with them. I think I have seen all I need to see, I have seen all the schools I need to see in Big Ten, maybe Nebraska, but I need to try to get to the SEC.

Ozone: When do you hope to decide and which other schools are you interested in?

Garrett: Ole Miss and LSU, other officials may go to FSU and USC. I will take all five but have not thought about which five exactly. I have been to OSU four times. I want to visit some schools in the summer then take a break and focus on school and the season. I might take an Official Visit during the season but will focus on visiting after the season.

Thank you Clifton for the second interview with Ozone. We look forward to following your recruitment and seeing where you end up.
