Buckeyes Head to Jersey Shores for Running Back: Jonathan Hilliman
By Michael Chung
The Buckeyes are standing at 14 commits for 2014 and likely will have a class around 20-22. This means space is limited. OSU will definitely take at least five lineman and already have three committed. They will also reserve a space for Raekwon McMillan, Marshon Lattimore, and Curtis Samuel. Adding up the math, this would leave only one to two spots available.
OSU has fairly good RB depth and already has Parris Campbell committed for 2014. Is there room for another RB?
Standing 6’1” weighing in at 210 lbs. out of Jersey City, NJ,, Jonathan Hilliman has been compared to Carlos Hyde, a power back with speed. He is rated 3-Stars by 247 Sports but has offers from power house schools like Georgia, Michigan, Stanford, Florida, and Alabama.
The Alabama offer stands out as Nick Saban has been churning out NFL RB stars consistently the last few years. I talked to him a few weeks ago shortly after his OSU visit and here is what he had to say.
Ozone: Tell me about your visit?
Hilliman: It was a very good visit; I got a lot out of it, very productive and insightful.
Ozone: When did OSU offer?
Hilliman: They were the 7th school that offered me, somewhere between my sophomore and junior year. My coach told me they offered and that is where the communication began.
Ozone: What has Urban Meyer said to you during the recruiting process?
Hilliman: He told me how important I am to the offense. We talked x’s and o’s as well as about real life. He did not pressure me to commit nor did he give me a timetable but for me to keep an open mind and to make the best decision I can for me.
Ozone: When would you like to make your final decision?
Hilliman: Before the season starts.
Ozone: Did you come close to committing on your visit?
Hilliman: I was really close but I needed to refrain and hear what other schools have to offer.
Ozone: What are some other schools you are considering?
Hilliman: Rutgers, Michigan, Alabama, Vanderbilt, and Miami but Ohio State is my leader for now and I am also most comfortable with their coaching staff.
Ozone: Have other schools told you about OSU’s RB depth as a recruiting method?
Hilliman: Other schools do mention the RB depth at OSU but competition is a good thing and I do not want to shy away from it so it will not be an issue.
