Football Recruiting
Interview with Weekend Visitor Chad Mavety
By Michael Chung

Offensive line is, according to Urban Meyer, priority 1, 1a, 1b and 1c for the class of 2014. One of their big targets is junior college offensive lineman Chad Mavety. He is a big man, standing 6’6” 320 lbs. and currently attending Nassau Community College in New York State.

With fellow juco lineman Jermaine Eluemunor pledging to UCLA (though he will visit OSU June 21, and Meyer is still recruiting him), Mavety becomes an even greater priority. Along with the Buckeyes, Mavety has offers from schools like Alabama, Syracuse, Kansas, Florida State, Arkansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Wisconsin. He is rated the #3 junior college prospect in the nation per 247 Sports.

It is clear that Mavety is a highly sought after O-lineman. He took time to let the O-zone readers have an inside look into his recruitment.

Ozone: Tell me about your OSU offer? How did you find out about it?

Mavety: Coach Warinner called my coach and said he loved my film and that he wanted to offer me a scholarship and that I was supposed to call him, so I did and that's when he offered me.

Ozone: What has OSU been telling you if you commit to them?

Mavety: They tell me everyday I'm their #1 guy and I'm the missing piece to the national championship team. And coach Warinner said he can make me a first-round draft pick with a little bit of help, so it's definitely eye opening.

Ozone: Does the fact that OSU has 4 OL graduating after this year make them more appealing?

Mavety: Yeah, of course it means they need people to step up right away and they say I'm their left tackle the day I step on campus, so they have high hopes for me and it's an honor to be valued at the level they value me at.

Ozone: Who is your leader? Top 3?

Mavety: I don't have leaders or a top 3, but eventually by end of July to early August I'll know a top 5-7.

Ozone: Which coaching staff are you closest too?

Mavety: I’m actually really close with most of the coaching staffs and talk to the head coaches on a daily basis. I talk to Ohio State, Alabama, Syracuse, Kansas, and Florida State the most.

Ozone: When will you decide?

Mavety: Possibly August early September.

Ozone: Have you talked to Urban Meyer? What has he told you?

Mavety: I talk to Urban Meyer a lot and he's always jamming it in my head that Ohio State wants me to be their left tackle, and he talks about being a father figure in a way and just wanting us to have the relationship that he and the Pouncey twins have, or the relationship he has with Tim Tebow.

Ozone: What is your best position?

Mavety: My best position is offensive tackle.

Ozone: If you had to commit today, which school would you choose?

Mavety: To be a hundred percent honest, I have no idea. I’ll be there at OSU Friday, Saturday, and Sunday unofficially with my mom, two brothers and my teammate, linebacker Keeon Virgile.
