Football Recruiting
Meyer Hoping to Have David Njoku Flow Down the NY/NJ Pipeline
By Michael Chung

The 2014 recruiting season is nearing its end but not without drama. Jamarco Jones could be flipping to Michigan State and Malik McDowell could be visiting OSU after all. Despite this flurry of drama, there will likely be only one or two more recruits to be added for this season, three if one counts Jamarco Jones.

OSU hopes to add is TE, in this case, a flex tight end which would run routes. Urban Meyer went hard after Mike Gesicki but even after Bill O’Brien bolted for the NFL and took Mike Vrabel with him, Meyer could not flip Gesicki to Ohio State. But leave it to Urban Meyer, when he loses one fish, he often catches another that is just as big or bigger.

Meyer has been very active in the New York/New Jersey area (site of this week’s Super Bowl) this recruiting season and is hoping to get one more from the Big Apple and Garden State in the person of David Njoku. Not only has OSU shown interest in Njoku but also the likes of Oregon and Alabama. He released his top 4 here at the-Ozone of Miami (FL), UConn (new head coach Bob Diaco is a NJ native), Temple, and the Buckeyes.

At one point, Penn State was a significant player but it looks like losing Bill O’Brien also lost Njoku and UConn gaining a NJ native in Bob Diaco helped the Huskies cause to land this 3-star NJ TE.

Njoku should decide a little before Feb 5—National Signing Day—and many believe he is Ohio State’s to lose. He has visited Miami (FL), UConn, Temple and Alabama with the Buckeyes getting the final visit.

He is rated 3-stars by Rivals, Scout, 24/7, and ESPN. Standing 6’4” and weighing 215 lbs., Njoku has been described as a football machine. He took time to update Ozone readers on his recruitment.
