Football Recruiting
Random Thought on the Recruiting Trail, July 25
By Michael Chung
It looks like the Juco OL saga will end this week when Jermaine Eluemunor announces and many are predicting Arkansas. I have sources saying that OSU coaches are still recruiting him hard, telling him how they need him and other sources that say Chad Mavety is OSU’s #1 guy. If by Friday Jermaine jumps from the Buckeyes to Bret Bielema, it looks like Mavety is the man they always have wanted.

Eluemunor tweeted “Arkansas is the SEC love the staff and facility's... OSU has Urban Meyer great campus and they just went 12-0... Both have great fans...” We will know for certain on Friday.

One new foe on the recruiting trail OSU will be up against is Florida State. They have battled in the past but the two schools have at least two targets—Mike Gesicki and Chad Mavety—that are seriously considering both schools and both recently visited the Seminoles.

Sean Macquire, one of OL Chad Mavety’s best friends at FSU, hosted Mavety. Though Macquire is one of his best friends, it is not an advantage for FSU. Mavety says it is only a bonus if he chooses the Seminoles.

Mavety says he will know his top couple of schools soon. He also visited Alabama this week and says Saban really wants him. Mavety did communicate to me that Ohio State will be on his list of schools he likes.

OL target Demetrius Knox is full of confidence. He communicated to me that he will start his freshman year at some point; it is not an option in his mind.

Knox says he has studied the depth charts of his top 5 and thinks the University of Florida has the clearest path to starting his freshman year. Knox says University of Florida has the least amount of OL on scholarship among his top 5.

Georgia fans have some hope in the recruitment of 5-star LB Raekwon McMillan. He told Michael Carvell of the Atlanta Journal Constitution that he was inspired by a “Dream Team” speech given by Mark Richt, McMillan said “He was telling me that everything I was looking for out of state, I can find in-state at the University of Georgia,” McMillan said. “I know that what he said was true, but I don’t really know where I am going to go. I’m still just trying to figure it out. It really depends on how the season goes all of my top five schools.” Carvell goes on to write, “Does Raekwon feel like UGA is serious? ‘Yes, I definitely feel like UGA they are serious about me. I don’t have a problem with staying in state. After having that conversation with Coach Richt, it just makes more sense to stay home. He gave me some things to think about.’” It is a long way until January for Raekwon when he will announce at the Under Armour All Star Game.
