Football Recruiting
Nic Weishar
By Michael Chung

The tight end position is changing. Though Urban Meyer is given credit for revolutionizing the position with his work with Aaron Hernandez at Florida; current Ohio State offensive coordinator Tom Herman was doing innovative things with the TE ever since his days at Rice and Sam Houston State University. James Casey, a former TE at Rice and currently a fullback with the Houston Texans, was a product of Herman’s innovation with the TEs.

Ohio State has only offered four tight ends so far for 2014 and one of the offers is Chicago, IL prospect Nic Weishar. At 6-5, 215 lbs., Weishar already has the frame for the next level. He has offers from Michigan, Notre Dame, Arkansas, Missouri, Boston College, Wisconsin, and the Buckeyes to name a few. He took time to update Ozone readers on his recruitment.

Ozone: You are being offered as a tight end, is that the only position you can play? Are other schools offering you a scholarship to play a different position?

Weishar: I play wide receiver in high school, but most of the schools are looking at me just for tight end.

Ozone: What did Urban Meyer say to you in regards to your role at OSU if you commit?

Weishar: I have not spoken with Coach Meyer yet, but Coach Vrabel and Coach Hinton see me fitting in to their scheme very well as a tight end.

Ozone: Which school did you grow up following? Is that an advantage? Who were your favorite players?

Weishar: I never really grew up following a certain school. I was just a big fan of college football.

Ozone: Which coaching staffs have you developed the best relationships with? Which coaches are you closest too? How often do you talk or communicate?

Weishar: Right now I have been trying to build a relationship with all of the coaches so I try to keep in touch with each of them.

Ozone: You mentioned you do not have a top 5, tell me some of the schools you are most likely going to visit and is Ohio State likely one of them?

Weishar: Right now I have unofficial visits set up to Kansas, Missouri, Northwestern, Indiana, and Michigan. I will set up some more soon and I'd definitely like to get up to Ohio State sometime in the near future.

Ozone: What about Ohio State do you find most appealing? Ohio State has a rich football tradition and is always in the running for a national championship. Coach Meyer wins where ever he goes and the rest of the staff seem like great people as well.

Quick Hitters:
1.     What is your favorite food? Chipotle burritos
2.     Favorite drink? Gatorade
3.     Favorite restaurant? Lou Malnati's
4.     Favorite Movie? The Little Giants
5.     Hobby? Spending time with family
6.     Best subject in school? Math
7.     Worst subject in school? Physics

Thank you Nic for taking time to let Buckeye Nation get to know you better. We look forward to seeing where you decide to go to school and wish you best of luck.
