Football Recruiting
Does 2014 Need Some Florida Superstars? Interview With Quincy Wilson
By Michael Chung

Ohio State has always recruited Florida well and what OSU recruiting class would it be without a star from the sunshine state? With Urban Meyer at the helm, someone who is established well in Florida, there will almost never be a recruiting class without a Florida star; or will there? As of now, the 2014 recruiting class has no one from the sunshine state committed.

Last year had Joey Bosa and James Clark and the year before had Riquan Southward (though he later transferred). 2011 had Jeremy Cash, Jeff Heuerman, and Ryan Shazier but 2014 is void so far and if they get everyone they are targeting then this will be the first class since 2003 not to have a player from FL sign a NLOI (James Louis was from FL and committed but never signed). Florida has been a long time well of water for OSU.

That could change if defensive back Quincy Wilson decides to come up north to be Buckeye and he will bring another Florida superstar with him if he does. Wilson and Rivals 4-star WR Ermon Lane have already announced they are a packaged deal so any school that gets one also gets the other. With Urban Meyer’s lust for southern speed, this sunshine duo could be hard to pass up.

Standing 6’2” 195 lbs. Wilson has been clocked at a sub 4.5 forty-yard dash. He possesses the size and the speed to be a dominant corner.

The last OSU DB hailing from Florida was Chimidi Chekwa out of Clermont, FL. Chekwa had a three-star rating at one point but ended up having a stellar OSU career and went on to the NFL where he currently plays cornerback for the Oakland Raiders. Could lightning strike twice? Wilson is rated four-stars by Rivals, ESPN, and 247Sports but only three-stars by Scout. Wilson took some time to talk to the-Ozone.

The-Ozone: Have you decided on a specific date in August to announce and are you pretty sure which school it will be?
Haven't decided a date yet and I know what school I'm going to.

The-Ozone: An article said you are deciding August 10th. Is this correct?
Incorrect

The-Ozone: Since Malik Hooker's commitment have you talked to OSU coaches? If you have, what do they say?
Haven't talked to the coaches since he's committed.

The-Ozone: Is it true that you and Ermon Lane are a package deal? If it is, does that eliminate OSU due to their scholarship restrictions?
Yes Ermon and I are going to the same school; OSU is not eliminated.

The-Ozone: Some list you as a corner others safety which is your best position and which position does OSU say they want you to play?
I am a corner, I don't play safety and I'm being recruited as a corner.

The-Ozone: How often are you talking to OSU coaches? Do you talk to any other staff a lot?
I talk to my entire top 5 a lot at least like every other day.

The-Ozone: Which coaches have you formed the best relationship with?
I think I have a good relationship with all the coaches recruiting me in my top 5.

The-Ozone: Which team did you grow up cheering for?
I was a Miami fan growing up, I no longer am.

The-Ozone: If Urban Meyer were not the coach, would you even consider OSU?
I think I would consider but I do not know if I would if he was not at OSU.
