Football Recruiting
The Early Bird Gets the Worm: Interview With 2017 Prospect Richard LeCounte
By Michael Chung

Football recruiting is changing faster than Apple is producing iPhones. One trend that is taking place is for early offers, really early offers. 2014 still has over 4 months till National Signing Day and there are still 4-6 spots open, but that does not hinder Urban Meyer from thinking about the future.

Meyer has already made about sixty offers for 2015, nine for 2016, & one for 2017. That one 2017 offer belongs to Richard LeCounte, a GA LB prospect out of Hinesville Liberty County. He is the teammate of current OSU target and one of the top LBs for 2014: Raekwon McMillan.

It is not a surprise that Meyer is on the cutting edge, making really early offers. He knows that the early bird gets the worm. If LeCounte comes to Columbus in 2017, this offer in the year 2013 started the recruiting train to Columbus rolling.

LeCounte gave the-Ozone readers an early insight into his recruitment, which could be a long long time in the making, or short depending on when Richard feels it is right. Raekwon McMillan coming to OSU would help that process.

Ozone: How did you find out about your OSU offer?
I talked to Urban one night on the phone, I was first talking to coach Withers, he then directed me to Urban and he told me there is a home at OSU and offered. I was not expecting it. I did not expect any of my offers from Florida, Georgia, or Akron.

Ozone: What schools that have not offered that you would you like an offer from? Powerhouse schools, Alabama, Clemson, I heard from their coaches and they may see me play. FSU, Michigan, I really like Michigan. I like their style of play and they have athletes on field, love their style but I really like OSU too.

Ozone: What schools have called you since OSU offered?
Clemson, North Carolina and some more but they talk to my coaches, I do not know who talked to them.

Ozone: What did Urban Meyer say to you when he offered you?
He told me he really likes Raekwon and heard that I was good and he would like to have both of us at OSU and there is always a home at OSU. He wants me to take an unofficial and told me I have a scholarship.

Ozone: Did Raekwon McMillan have anything to do with you receiving an offer so early? Did he talk to OSU coaches? Not really, we were not focusing on offers; we were focusing on our regular season. We want to get to playoffs and make some loud noise.

Ozone: Tell me about Raekwon? If he committed to OSU, would you commit too?
He is filling me in and challenging me to research and study school traditions. He is a really cool guy, big brother, and mentor figure. He took me under his wing early and told me what I need to do to get to college.

Ozone: If you had to guess, where do you think Raekwon McMillan will commit? I do not know honestly, all his options are open and his top five are where it is. We do not talk about recruiting, he says he set it aside to focus on getting to the playoffs. He told me about OSU, they have a good program and I should research more and have an open mind.

Ozone: It is so early but do you plan on committing anytime soon or do you think you will wait till sometime in 2016? I have an idea but I must talk to my parents and coaches. I might not commit till National Signing Day of my senior year. It could be a while. No chance this year

Quick Hitters:

One quirky thing about Raekwon? He is a Geek
Favorite food? Pasta
Favorite subject in school? World History
