Football Recruiting
Decision Date Set for 2015 Ohio Athlete Jerome Baker
By Tony Gerdeman

COLUMBUS, Ohio — If June was the month where Ohio State's 2015 recruiting class got hot, then July may be the month where the Buckeyes really started cooking with gas.

On the heels of the announcement that five-star defenders Justin Hilliard and Jashon Cornell will be deciding on July 2, came the news on Sunday night that Cleveland Benedictine athlete Jerome Baker had scheduled his commitment for July 11.

He announced the news via Twitter.

"Commit day set; July 11th. One of the biggest decisions of my life."

Baker (6-1 205) is rated the #1 player in Ohio by Rivals and the #36 player in the class overall. Each recruiting service rates him a four-star prospect. Scout has him as their #5 outside linebacker, while ESPN has him #8 at that position.

Rivals and 247Sports simply categorize him as an athlete, and for good reason. Baker projects as an outside linebacker, but he is also a fantastic running back in high school. In fact, he was a First-Team All-State running back last season.

A little over a week ago Baker released a top eight of Ohio State, Florida, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Tennessee, Florida State, and Miami (FL).

Baker could very well be the final piece of the linebacker puzzle for Ohio State in 2015. Already having Nick Conner in the fold, and possibly Justin Hilliard this week, Baker looks like the prototypical walk-out linebacker that the Buckeyes are looking for.

The position requires safety-like speed and quickness, which is exactly what Baker has. He has been timed in the 4.5s frequently in the 40-yard dash, and his abilities as a running back display his quickness and mobility constantly.

Ohio State is the clear favorite here and any selection other than the Buckeyes would be a major upset.
