Football Recruiting
2015 5-Star Offensive Lineman Set to Choose Between Clemson and Ohio State
By Tony Gerdeman

The 2015 Signing Day is just over a year away, but one of the nation's top juniors is intent upon ending his recruitment much sooner rather than later.

Mitch Hyatt, the consensus #1 offensive tackle in the 2015 class, will be making his decision Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and he is expected to be choosing between Clemson and Ohio State.

Hyatt (6-6 271), out of North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee Georgia, is the top player in the state for 2015. Given that he is still quite young, he does have some filling out to do. It is his outstanding feet and technique, however, are what separate him from the rest of the class at this point.

Hyatt has a very strong family connection to Clemson, so the Tigers are expected to be his pick by most everyone. According to his head coach Bob Sphire, however, the Buckeyes have a family connection as well.

"His mom and her family, they’re all from Ohio," he told the AJC. "I think she’s a big Ohio State fan."

The Clemson connection for Hyatt comes in the form of his uncle Dan Benish, who won a national championship as a player with the Tigers. Benish is considered a role model for Hyatt, and most expect him to continue emulating that role model all the way to Clemson, South Carolina.

While he would be thrilled to have Hyatt attend Clemson, Benish doesn't want his nephew ignoring the vast number of opportunities available to him.

"He is really impressed with Urban Meyer," Benish told the AJC. "He left a really good impression on Mitch. Of course, he has been going to Clemson since he was younger. He hasn’t been to South Carolina. He has been to Georgia for a couple of games. I’d love for him to see some other places, including Alabama."

The Buckeyes have had quite a bit of success landing Georgia prospects of late, including 5-star linebacker Raekwon McMillan in the soon-to-be-concluded 2014 class.

But even McMillan's lofty status didn't match the rarefied air of Hyatt's rankings. Hyatt is ranked the #4 player overall by Scout, 247 Sports and ESPN. Rivals is only impressed enough with him to have him as their #13 player overall.

Along with his offers from Ohio State and Clemson, Hyatt also has offers from Florida State, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Miami (FL), South Carolina, Tennessee, UCLA and USC.

Will the Buckeyes continue the Georgia pipeline that has included the likes of Cameron Heyward, Bradley Roby, Vonn Bell and Trey Johnson? We'll find out Wednesday night.
