Football Recruiting
Buckeyes Flip Cane for Latest 2015 Commit
By Tony Gerdeman

COLUMBUS, Ohio — In terms of size, the Buckeyes' latest commit is their biggest yet, as they landed a commitment from 6-foot-9 305-pound offensive lineman Kevin Feder on Sunday.

Feder, a three-star prospect from Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, New Jersey, had been committed to the Miami Hurricanes since January. He also had offers from Michigan State, Maryland, Rutgers and Tennessee.

He broke the news via Twitter.

The Ohio State coaches got a very good look at Feder during one of their position camps this weekend and offered him on Friday. He then got a very good look at Ohio State before finally committing.

Feder is somewhat under the radar as he didn't play on the offensive line last season after suffering a spiral fracture to his tibia during preseason practice. He returned with four games remaining in the season, but only played on the interior of the defensive line.

Despite his limited play, he still finished with 15 tackles, five for loss, with two sacks and four passes batted down. Feder's performance at Ohio State's camp exhibited an extremely athletic big man who is completely recovered from injury.

He was ranked the #23 prospect in the state of New Jersey by NJ.com back in February.

"When Kevin played, we were a much better football team," Don Bosco head coach Greg Toal told NJ.com.

"There's no question. He was a force in the middle, knocked down a lot of passes. He made a ton of plays in there. He's gonna be a real good college player. We expect a lot of big things out of him next year. He's one of those guys still growing into his body, so he's just touching the surface now, and he's starting to get better and better."

Even though Feder has never played offensive tackle in high school, he certainly looks the part with his size and frame, and after his showing this weekend, the Buckeye coaches decided to make their move.

Feder is projected to grow to 7-feet tall, and he has an older brother who is 6-foot-11. His father is 6-foot-6.

The Buckeyes now have two tackle prospects committed in Feder and Grant Schmidt, so they very well could be done at the position. They are still very much in the mix for center James Daniels (Warren, OH) and guard Matthew Burrell (Woodbridge, VA), as well as a couple of other possibilities.
