Football Recruiting
Meyer Hoping to Lure Kieffer Longson to Ohio
By Michael Chung

OSU is hoping to add a sum total of 5 OL commits for the 2014 recruiting season. But one recruiting season does not replenish a depleted field and the Buckeyes will also have to work hard on recruiting OL for 2015. One target is CA prospect Kieffer Longson. At 6’7” 290 pounds, Longson has the frame to grow into a dominant OL.

A Morman, it does not sound like Longson is a BYU lock, far from it. He has toured the BYU complex and did not seem to be overly in awe of the football facilities and communicated that he had a sense that BYU coaches were a little too confident that he would pledge. Though being Mormon is a significant advantage, my impression was in no way shape or form BYU is a leader and that Longson could go anywhere and is wide open.

He will likely partake in a Mormon mission so would not be available until the 2017 class. OSU has already offered Richard LeCounte out of Hinesville, GA, the same school as current OSU commit Raekwon McMillan. OSU would be willing to wait if Longson goes on his two-year mission. He took time to update the-Ozone.

The-Ozone: Tell me about your OSU offer? How did you find out?
It was a huge shock getting my first offer from Ohio State; I had no clue that would happen and I found out through my dad who talked to the O-line coach (Warinner) that told my dad “we are offering your son.”

The-Ozone: Do you have a leader or a top 5? Which offers are standing out?
I do not have a top 5 yet but OSU is one of my favorites.

The-Ozone: Which coaching staffs are you closest to or have the best relationship with?
I am very close to the Cal Berkeley, USC , and San Jose coaching staffs mainly because they’re close by.

The-Ozone: Whom did you grow up following? Were you ever an Ohio State fan?
I never really grew up having a favorite college team. I grew up following California teams.

The-Ozone: What did the OSU coaches tell you about your role?
The OSU coaches said I would become a great lineman and make it to the NFL.

The-Ozone: What is your best position? Could you play DL and is anyone recruiting you as a DL?
I am being recruited as an offensive lineman not a defensive lineman; even though I play both ways I am the best at left tackle.

The-Ozone: How important is it for you to be close to home?
It’s not too important to stay close to home it would be kind of nice to get away.

The-Ozone: What are the factors you are looking for in a college?
What I look for in a college is a good education and an opportunity to go to the NFL.

Quick Hitters:
What is your favorite food? Burgers
Favorite movie? The Blind Side
Favorite restaurant? A place that serves big burgers
Favorite actor or actress? I do not have one
