Football Recruiting
Looking Forward: 2015 Defensive Line
By Tony Gerdeman

COLUMBUS, Ohio — There may be no area on the football field that has been attacked as robustly on the recruiting trail over the last few years as Urban Meyer's defensive line. From the day he took the Ohio State job he was on the phone trying to find the nation's best defensive linemen, and it didn't matter where they came from.

He landed Noah Spence out of Pennsylvania, Tommy Schutt out of Illinois and Jamal Marcus out of North Carolina. The following year found Meyer signing defensive linemen from Florida, South Carolina, again in North Carolina, and Ohio. The 2014 class then ventured into New Jersey, Virginia and Illinois for defensive linemen.

The net has again by cast widely, with possibilities stretching from Virginia to Minnesota, and Canada to Georgia. Ohio State is likely looking to sign 3-4 defensive linemen, even though they only lose two to graduation following the 2014 season.

Right now Dre'Mont Jones and Jashon Cornell seem to be the best bets, and both are big defensive ends who will get even bigger.

Dre'Mont Jones (Uncommitted) Cleveland, Ohio
Rivals ☆☆☆ #38 Strongside Defensive End
Scout ☆☆☆ ☆ #23 Defensive End
247Sports ☆☆☆☆ #9 Strongside Defensive End
ESPN ☆☆ ☆☆ #25 Defensive End
Jones (6-5 250) has a top three of Ohio State, Michigan and Notre Dame, but the Buckeyes are well out in front and expected to eventually land the big defensive end. He also has offers from Florida State, Michigan State and Iowa.

Josh Sweat (Uncommitted) Chesapeake, Virginia
Rivals☆☆ ☆☆☆ #1 Weakside Defensive End
Scout ☆☆☆ ☆ ☆ #2 Defensive End
247Sports ☆☆☆ ☆☆ #1 Weakside Defensive End
ESPN ☆☆☆ ☆☆ #1 Defensive End
Sweat (6-5 237) is one of the most sought-after players in the nation. He runs in the 4.5s and is an athletic freak. The Buckeyes are in the mix, and will receive a visit in late July. Ohio State is by no means the leader here, but they have Sweat's interest, and that's half of the battle.

Jashon Cornell (Uncommitted) St. Paul, Minnesota
Rivals ☆☆☆☆ #6 Strongside Defensive End
Scout ☆☆☆ ☆ #10 Defensive End
247Sports ☆☆☆☆ ☆ #5 Weakside Defensive End
ESPN ☆☆☆ ☆☆ #5 Defensive End
Cornell (6-4 260) has offers from Ohio State, Alabama, Notre Dame, USC, UCLA, etc, and right now the Buckeyes might just hold the advantage. He plans to make his decision on August 28 and Ohio State has made quite the surge over the past month. He has been canceling visits to other contenders of late, which makes the Buckeyes' odds look even better.

Terry Beckner (Uncommitted) East St. Louis, Illinois
Rivals ☆☆☆☆ #5 Defensive Tackle
Scout ☆☆☆☆ #12 Defensive End
247Sports ☆☆☆☆☆ #1 Strongside Defensive End
ESPN ☆☆☆☆☆ #3 Defensive End
With offers from all over the Big Ten and places like USC, Florida State, LSU and Oregon, Beckner (6-4 293) is wanted by all corners of the country. It would be a surprise if he stays at defensive end given his size. The Buckeyes are in the mix, but Missouri is thought to be the big leader here.

Darius Fullwood (Uncommitted) Olney, Maryland
Rivals ☆☆☆☆ #18 Strongside Defensive End
Scout ☆☆☆ #45 Defensive End
247Sports ☆☆☆ #20 Weakside Defensive End
ESPN ☆☆☆ #28 Defensive End
Fullwood (6-4 240) has offers from Ohio State, Alabama, Miami (FL), Virginia Tech, Penn State and Florida State. The Buckeyes are thought to lead here, and he has a top three of OSU, Kentucky and Virginia Tech. He will be at OSU's camp on Wednesday.

Tim Settle (Uncommitted) Manassas, Virginia
Rivals ☆☆☆☆ #9 Defensive Tackle
Scout ☆☆☆☆ ☆ #4 Defensive Tackle
247Sports ☆☆☆☆ #9 Defensive Tackle
ESPN ☆☆☆☆ ☆ #2 Defensive Tackle
Settle (6-3 318) has been in and out of the Ohio State recruiting plans over the last four or five months. He is a long shot at this point, but does at least bear a mention.

Christian Wilkins (Uncommitted) Suffield, Connecticut
Rivals ☆☆☆ ☆ #7 Defensive Tackle
Scout ☆☆☆ ☆ #9 Defensive Tackle
247Sports ☆☆☆☆ #14 Defensive Tackle
ESPN ☆☆☆☆ #9 Defensive Tackle
One of the top defensive tackles in the nation, Wilkins (6-4 290) has offers from Ohio State, Alabama, Penn State, Florida State, Michigan State and assorted others. Many believe this will come down to Penn State and Ohio State, and Wilkins will be visiting PSU this weekend.

Neville Gallimore (Uncommitted) St. Catharines, ON
Rivals ☆☆☆☆ #18 Defensive Tackle
Scout ☆☆☆☆ #11 Defensive Tackle
247Sports ☆☆☆☆ #7 Defensive Tackle
ESPN NR Defensive Tackle
Gallimore (6-3 300) has really come on of late thanks to the summer camp circuit. As a Canadian, this is the first real chance most coaches have gotten to see him. He has already been to Ohio State, where he was impressive. He has run a 4.72 at 300 pounds, which tells you a bit about his athleticism. Has offers from OSU, Oklahoma, Miami (FL), Florida, Penn State, Notre Dame, Oregon and others. This will be a long process, but the Buckeyes are at least in the mix right now.

Quay Picou (Uncommitted) Buford, Georgia
Rivals ☆☆☆ #23 Defensive Tackle
Scout ☆☆☆ #39 Defensive Tackle
247Sports ☆☆☆☆ #23 Defensive Tackle
ESPN NR Defensive Tackle
Picou (6-3 280) holds offers from Ohio State, Texas A&M, Miami (FL), Tennessee and Georgia Tech. He declared Ohio State his leader last month. He has not yet been offered by Georgia.

2016 Defensive Linemen

Kyree Campbell (Uncommitted) Woodbridge, Virginia
Rivals NR Defensive Tackle
Scout ☆☆☆☆ #24 Defensive Tackle
247Sports ☆☆ ☆☆ #7 Strongside Defensive End
ESPN NR Defensive Tackle
Campbell (6-5 250) already has offers from Ohio State, Florida State, Penn State, Michigan and North Carolina. He will be at Ohio State for Friday Night Lights on July 25.

Nick Bosa (Uncommitted) Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
Rivals NR Defensive End
Scout ☆☆☆☆ ☆ #2 Defensive End
247Sports ☆☆☆☆ #4 Weakside Defensive End
ESPN NR Defensive End
Bosa (6-4 255) has been a defensive standout since his freshman season for St. Thomas Aquinas. He already has offers from Ohio State, Alabama, Florida State, Florida, Miami (FL) and Notre Dame. The Buckeyes are the favorites here.

Prince Sammons (Uncommitted) Cincinnati, Ohio
Rivals NR Strongside Defensive End
Scout ☆☆☆☆ #4 Defensive End
247Sports ☆☆☆☆ #3 Strongside Defensive End
ESPN NR Defensive End
Sammons (6-8 260) worked out at the Ohio State camp on Tuesday, receiving special attention from defensive line coach Larry Johnson. The Buckeyes have not yet offered, but that could eventually change. Tennessee and Kentucky have offered. He is a rather raw prospect, and there is some thought that his best position will be on the offensive line.
