Football Recruiting
Looking Forward: 2015 Offensive Line
By Tony Gerdeman

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Having brought in eight offensive linemen in the last two recruiting classes, the Buckeyes don't necessarily need a gigantic haul in 2015. In fact, it would be a surprise at this point if they went for more than four linemen in this class, especially with what could be a very special haul in 2016.

With Grant Schmidt already in the fold, the Buckeyes really only need three more commitments, and the two likeliest at this point are Matthew Burrell and James Daniels. That leaves a spot for one more from the names listed below. It's not an exhaustive list, but it covers the players that should be covered at this point.

Grant Schmidt (OSU Commitment) Sioux Falls, SD
Rivals ☆☆☆☆ #22 Offensive Tackle
Scout ☆☆ ☆ #58 Offensive Tackle
247Sports ☆☆☆☆ #29 Offensive Tackle
ESPN ☆☆ ☆☆ #37 Offensive Tackle
All four recruiting services like Schmidt (6-6 275) as an offensive tackle, which should tell you that they all see solid feet and a frame for pass blocking. Ohio State likes his technique and they think they got a pretty good one when Schmidt committed a week ago.

Drew Richmond (Uncommitted) Memphis, Tennessee
Rivals ☆☆☆☆ #5 Offensive Tackle
Scout ☆☆☆ ☆ #10 Offensive Tackle
247Sports ☆☆☆☆ #15 Offensive Tackle
ESPN ☆☆☆☆ #4 Offensive Tackle
Richmond (6-5 320) is one of the most sought-after tackles in the nation, and the Buckeyes are right in the mix. He is long with a big frame and is only getting better as a pass blocker. Ohio State still has some work to do, obviously, and the Vols are going to be hard to beat. He has offers from everywhere.

Andre James (Uncommitted) Herriman, Utah
Rivals ☆☆☆☆ #28 Offensive Tackle
Scout ☆☆☆ ☆ #13 Offensive Tackle
247Sports ☆☆ ☆ #45 Offensive Tackle
ESPN ☆☆ ☆☆ #14 Offensive Tackle
James (6-5 275) recently visited Ohio State and placed them in his top six, so he is serious about the Buckeyes. However, it is going to be very difficult to lure him from the west coast teams that he is also interested in. A few of those teams: USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington.

Pat Allen (Uncommitted) Reisterstown, Maryland
Rivals ☆☆☆☆ #11 Offensive Tackle
Scout ☆☆☆☆ #27 Offensive Tackle
247Sports ☆☆☆ #81 Offensive Tackle
ESPN ☆☆☆☆ #24 Offensive Tackle
Despite the wide range in rankings, Allen (6-5 283) has an offer list that puts him at the higher end of 2015 prospects. Along with Ohio State, he also has offers from Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, USC and Wisconsin. The Buckeyes are in Allen's top five, and at one point they were thought to even lead.

Venzell Boulware (Uncommitted) Fairburn, Georgia
Rivals ☆☆☆☆ #10 Offensive Guard
Scout ☆☆☆ #42 Offensive Tackle
247Sports ☆☆☆ #58 Offensive Tackle
ESPN ☆☆☆☆ #27 Offensive Tackle
Boulware (6-4 290) visited Ohio State a couple of weeks ago and reportedly had a great time. The Buckeyes have offered, but they will have a battle competing with Clemson, Alabama, Auburn and South Carolina. There is no offer from Georgia yet, however.

Matthew Burrell (Uncommitted) Woodbridge, Virginia
Rivals ☆☆☆☆ #7 Offensive Guard
Scout ☆☆☆☆ #4 Offensive Guard
247Sports ☆☆☆☆ #5 Offensive Tackle
ESPN ☆☆☆☆ 6 Offensive Tackle
While there is some disagreement about which position Burrell (6-6 290) will ultimately end up at, there is universal agreement that whichever position that is, he should end up being pretty good. By all accounts, the Buckeyes lead at the moment over schools like Alabama, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Florida State and Auburn.

James Daniels (Uncommitted) Warren, Ohio
Rivals ☆☆☆ #4 Center
Scout ☆☆☆ #7 Center
247Sports ☆☆☆ #11 Center
ESPN ☆☆☆ #3 Center
Daniels (6-2 282) is widely regarded as one of the best center prospects in the 2015 class. He is an Ohio State legacy, being the son of former Buckeye offensive lineman LeShun Daniels. Auburn was at one point named the leader here, but the Buckeyes are the smart bet at the moment. He also holds offers from Alabama, Miami (FL), Michigan State, UCLA and Wisconsin.

2016 Offensive Linemen

Tommy Kraemer (Uncommitted) Cincinnati, Ohio
Rivals NR Offensive Tackle
Scout ☆☆☆☆ #2 Offensive Tackle
247Sports ☆☆☆☆ #8 Offensive Tackle
ESPN NR Offensive Tackle
Kraemer (6-5 305) will be one of the most sought after offensive linemen in the nation. The Buckeyes lead at the moment and will work to extend that lead in the coming months. Kraemer already has offers from Notre Dame, Penn State, Tennessee and Louisville.

Jauan Williams (Uncommitted) Washington, DC
Rivals NR Offensive Tackle
Scout ☆☆☆☆ #17 Offensive Tackle
247Sports ☆☆☆☆ #5 Offensive Tackle
ESPN NR Offensive Tackle
While the Buckeyes have their hooks into some top in-state prospects, Williams (6-7 275) will certainly be one to watch. He already has offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Florida State, Clemson, Florida and Alabama.

Liam Eichenberg (Uncommitted) Cleveland, Ohio
Rivals NR Offensive Tackle
Scout ☆☆☆☆ #5 Offensive Guard
247Sports ☆☆☆☆☆ #3 Offensive Tackle
ESPN NR Offensive Tackle
Eichenberg (6-5 275) is the top offensive lineman in the state according to some, and right now is the Buckeyes' to lose. He also has offers from Michigan, Notre Dame and Florida State. He has the skill set to become a complete offensive player on the line of scrimmage.

Tyler Gerald (Uncommitted) Portsmouth, Ohio
Rivals NR Offensive Guard
Scout ☆☆☆☆ #6 Offensive Guard
247Sports NR Offensive Guard
ESPN NR Offensive Guard
Gerald (6-5 300) already has offers from Ohio State and Virginia Tech. It would be a surprise if he ends up anywhere other than OSU.

Michael Onwenu (Uncommitted) Detroit, Michigan
Rivals NR Defensive Tackle
Scout ☆☆☆☆ #7 Offensive Guard
247Sports NR Offensive Guard
ESPN NR Offensive Guard
Ohio State was the first school to offer Onwenu (6-2 310), and since that offer he has gone on to impress people on the summer camp circuit. Illinois has since offered. He could also end up on the defensive line in college.
