Football Recruiting
Looking Forward: 2015 Running Backs
By Tony Gerdeman

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Buckeyes have not yet received a commitment from a running back, but they are in on some of the very best in the nation.

Ohio State would like to take two running backs in this class, but I don't think it's a necessity provided the continued emergence of freshman Curtis Samuel.

However, the possibility of transfers always exists, and signing two tailbacks in the 2015 class would protect against that.

Ohio State has offered quite a few running backs, but here are the ones that you should be paying attention to.

Damien Harris (Uncommitted) Berea, Kentucky
Rivals ☆☆☆☆☆ #1 Running Back
Scout ☆☆☆ ☆ #1 Running Back
247Sports ☆☆☆☆ #2 Running Back
ESPN ☆☆ ☆☆ #1 Running Back
Harris (5-11 205) is quite possibly the top player on Ohio State's board, and right now they are in a very good position to land him. He is fast, elusive, yet low enough to the ground to run with power.

L.J. Scott (Uncommitted) Hubbard, Ohio
Rivals ☆☆☆☆ #6 Running Back
Scout ☆☆☆ ☆ #8 Running Back
247Sports ☆☆☆☆ #13 Running Back
ESPN ☆☆☆☆ #9 Running Back
Scott (6-0 205) was trending Michigan State's way, but a recent visit to Ohio State has apparently helped the Buckeyes a great deal. Scott is a power back, but has enough speed to get the job done. There are some who will tell you the Buckeyes lead here.

Mike Weber (Uncommitted) Detroit, Michigan
Rivals ☆☆☆☆ #10 Running Back
Scout ☆☆☆☆ #15 Running Back
247Sports ☆☆☆☆ #5 Running Back
ESPN ☆☆☆☆ #13 Running Back
Weber (5-10 205) told 247Sports recently that the Buckeyes lead for his services, while others still expect him to land at Michigan State. Whomever commits first between Weber and L.J. Scott to either MSU or OSU, the other school would be the favorite to land the other running back.

Jacques Patrick (Uncommitted) Orlando, Florida
Rivals ☆☆☆☆☆ #2 Running Back
Scout ☆☆☆☆ #10 Running Back
247Sports ☆☆☆☆ #3 Running Back
ESPN ☆☆☆☆ #2 Running Back
Patrick (6-2 220) plans to commit in October. He was at Michigan on Monday and is scheduled to be at Ohio State on Tuesday. Most expect him to stay in Florida for college, however.

Sotonye Jamabo (Uncommitted) Plano, Texas
Rivals ☆☆☆☆ #4 Running Back
Scout ☆☆☆☆ #2 Running Back
247Sports ☆☆☆☆ #12 Running Back
ESPN ☆☆☆☆ #4 Running Back
Jamabo (6-3 210) plans to visit Ohio State and is close friends with OSU basketball commit Mickey Mitchell. Because of his size and running style, Jamabo has received comparisons to former Buckeye great Eddie George.

Nyheim Hines (Uncommitted) Garner, North Carolina
Rivals ☆☆☆ #9 All-Purpose Back
Scout ☆☆☆☆ #23 Running Back
247Sports ☆☆☆☆ #2 All-Purpose Back
ESPN ☆☆☆☆ #12 Running Back
Hines (5-9 187) was at Ohio State a little over a week ago. He might fit into the slot more than the backfield, but he certainly brings the speed that the Buckeyes are looking for. Right now, however, the slot isn't really a priority given the players on the current roster.

Jordan Scarlett (Florida Atlantic) Ft. Lauderdale, FL
Rivals ☆☆☆☆ #13 Running Back
Scout ☆☆☆☆ #4 Running Back
247Sports ☆☆☆☆ #11 Running Back
ESPN ☆☆☆☆ #16 Running Back
Scarlett (5-11 210) is committed to Florida Atlantic, but that seems like a temporary thing. He has Ohio State in his top five, but Ohio State may not have him in theirs.

Dexter Williams (Miami) Orlando, Florida
Rivals ☆☆☆☆ #27 Running Back
Scout ☆☆☆☆ #17 Running Back
247Sports ☆☆☆☆ #4 Running Back
ESPN ☆☆☆☆ #5 Running Back
Williams (6-0 192) was at Ohio State on an unofficial visit Monday, but plans to return for an official visit. He is currently committed to Miami (FL), but clearly he is still looking around.

2016 Running Backs

George Hill (Uncommitted) Hubbard, Ohio
Rivals Not Rated
Scout Not Rated
247Sports Not Rated
ESPN Not Rated
Hill (6-0 182) is expected to be the first Ohio State commitment in the 2016 class. He is the "lightning" to L.J. Scott's "thunder" at Hubbard, and is a big play waiting to happen on every touch. The Buckeyes have already offered, and this one seems like just a matter of time.

Demario McCall (Uncommitted) North Ridgeville, OH
Rivals Not Rated
Scout Not Rated
247Sports Not Rated
ESPN Not Rated
McCall (5-11 180) is one of the more dynamic playmakers in the state, regardless of class. Like George Hill, he has an OSU offer and could be a Buckeye at any time. He may project more to the slot, however. His speed is legitimate and he can do an awful lot on the football field. Per almost all reports, he was the most impressive player at OSU's most-recent camp where he ran a 4.34.
