Mid-Week Recruiting Update — March 6
By Tony Gerdeman
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State "finally" up and offered Hubbard (OH) running back L.J. Scott on Wednesday, making him approximately the 18th tailback to receive a Buckeye offer in the 2015 class.
Scott is expected to make a visit to Ohio State on March 22 per Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports.
While Scott grew up a fan of the Buckeyes, he is currently intrigued by the thought of playing with his brother Isiah, a three-star 2015 linebacker. Isiah currently has an offer from Kentucky, as does L.J.
Per Wiltfong, Michigan State is also looking at Isiah, which could make the Spartans difficult to beat.
Urban Meyer called Scott on Wednesday.
"It was nice to talk to him and everything," he told Wiltfong. "He was telling me about Ohio State and how it's really hard to get into that school if you’re not doing well on your grades. That was the first thing he said to me was the grades."
Scott, who has already committed to playing in the Under Armour All-American Game next January, isn't in much of a hurry to offer up a commitment.
A Pair of Visits
Ohio State's first 2015 commit Eric Glover-Williams out of Canton McKinley is scheduled to visit Ohio State on Thursday. Glover-Williams (5-10 170) committed to the Buckeyes back in August. He is slated to be a slot receiver for Ohio State, even though he is a quarterback for his Bulldogs high school team.
In 2013 he dealt with injuries, but still rushed for 906 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also threw for 714 yards and four touchdowns. In 2012 he rushed for 1,574 yards and 22 touchdowns, while throwing for 1,114 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Visiting on Friday will be C.J. Stalker (6-3 226), a linebacker out of West Chester (OH) Lakota West. Stalker, who has one of the perfect names for a linebacker, is a three-star prospect and is ranked the #19 overall inside linebacker in the 2015 class per Rivals.
Stalker does not have an offer from Ohio State at this point, but does have offers from Cincinnati, Bowling Green, Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Virginia. He finished 2013 with 77 tackles and 11.5 tackles for loss.
L.J. Scott wasn't the only new offer this week, as Ohio State reached out to a few other 2015 prospects as well.
Drew Lock (6-3 191) is a four-star quarterback out of Lees Summit, Missouri, and he was offered by Ohio State on Monday. Along with Ohio State, Lock has offers from Missouri, Ole Miss, Louisville, Indiana, Tennessee and West Virginia. He is rated the #4 pocket passer in the nation per ESPN.
Wide receiver Tristan Payton (6-0 170), a three-star prospect from Jacksonville, Florida who is currently committed to Florida also received an offer from the Buckeyes this week. He has only been committed to the Gators for a little over a week at this point, so he's not exactly shutting his recruitment down just yet.
P.J. Mbanasor (6-1 171), a cornerback from Pflugerville, Texas has received an OSU offer as well. He has been committed to TCU since January. Rivals and Scout both call him a four-star prospect, and rank him in the low to mid-20s in their cornerback rankings. Mbanasor has received offers from Ohio State, Wisconsin and Oklahoma State in the past few days. He already held offers from Oklahoma, Baylor, Missouri and Notre Dame. Expect him to keep his options open.
OSU Leads for Four-Star Defensive Back
Following his visit to Ohio State on March 1, defensive back Marcus Lewis (6-1 187) out of Washington, DC named the Buckeyes his leader, telling ESPN's Tom VanHaaren it was "because of the relationship he and his family have with the staff."
Lewis is the #8 cornerback in the nation per Rivals, though Ohio State is reportedly looking at him as a safety. He also has offers from Clemson, Florida State, Florida, Michigan, Michigan State and Notre Dame. Lewis was previously committed to Virginia Tech.
