Buckeye Football Notebook: ‘It could go either way for anybody’

After beating every team on their schedule by double digits — including a Top 10 Wisconsin team twice — the Buckeyes fell from No. 1 to No. 2 in the College Football Playoff selection committee’s eyes in the final rankings. The drop has now pitted them against No. 3 Clemson out in the Fiesta Bowl, while No. 1 LSU gets No. 4 Oklahoma, which is seen as the much easier road.

Gene Smith Against SB 206, But Sees Room for Name, Image, Likeness Possibilities

COLUMBUS — Prior to Ohio State head coach Ryan Day’s weekly Tuesday media availability, OSU athletic director Gene Smith stopped by to address the growing debate regarding California SB 206 and students’ rights to name, image, and likeness. On Monday, California governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill into law that would allow college athletes in California to earn money from their name, image, and likeness. The law is intended to take effect on Jan. 1, 2023.
