OSU Athletics: The Ohio State Varsity "O" Association announced the 2008 Athletics Hall of Fame inductees in a press conference held at Ohio Stadium on Wednesday. In between snapping pictures, Jim Davidson managed to gather a few interesting video clips with Bobby Hoying, Jeff Uhlenhake and others. Check out Jim's video blog on YouTube.

Men's Basketball: OSU Head Basketball Coach Thad Matta has filled a vacancy on his coaching staff with a familiar face.

Matta announced today that Brandon Miller will join the OSU staff. Miller played his collegiate basketball at Butler and served on Matta's staff at OSU for three seasons from 2005 to 2007. He coached last season at Butler but will return to Matta's staff this year.
"I recruited him out of high school and coached him at Butler," said Matta. "He worked for me at Xavier and was critical to our early success we experienced at Ohio State our first three years," Matta said.
As a member of Butler's staff Miller was involved in recruiting, skill instruction, game preparation and on-court coaching. He will now have similar duties for Matta at OSU. In his first tour with the Buckeyes, Miller was the director of basketball operations for two years and the video coordinator in his third year in Columbus.

Football: The kickoff times and television coverage for OSU's first four games of the football season have been announced.
The August 30 season opener with Youngstown State will be a noon kickoff and will be televised by the Big Ten Network. OSU's September 20 matchup with Troy will also kick off at noon and will also air on the Big Ten Network.
OSU's September 13 game with Southern Cal will kick off at 5:00 PM (Pacific, 8:00 PM Eastern) and will air nationally on ABC.
OSU's home game September 6 with Ohio University will kick off at noon and will be televised by either ESPN or ESPN2.

Football: Tony Gerdeman didn't send us 20 anything last week, but this week we're getting things off on the right foot. Check out Tony's take on 20 post-season awards now on Columns and Features.
Tony says later on this week he's gonna send me the 20 bucks he owes me. We'll keep you posted on that one, but don't hold your breath. I'm not.

Wrestling: OSU national champions Mike Pucillo and J. Jaggers are both from Northeast Ohio and both were invited to throw out the first pitch at the Indians vs. Reds game last Friday in Cleveland. Men's Basketball: Ohio State has officially announced that assistant coach John Groce will be leaving the Buckeyes to take over the head coaching position at Ohio University.
Groce has been an assistant to Head Coach Thad Matta for eight years, dating back to his term at Butler University. We will have more details following a Thad Matta press conference schedule for 2PM Friday.

Football: After months of rumors it became official today. Antonio Henton has transferred to Georgia Southern University.

According to a statement made by Georgia Southern Head Football Coach Chris Hatcher Henton was not happy with his prospects for playing time at OSU.
"He was looking for a place to play, he wasn’t getting as many reps up there as he wanted to get," Hatcher said.
Henton appeared to be OSU's third-team quarterback after the spring game behind both Todd Boeckman and Joe Bauserman.
Henton is enrolled in classes at Georgia Southern as of today. His former high school coach, Rance Gillespie, is now the offensive coordinator at Georgia Southern. Georgia Southern is a Bowl Championship Division School. As such, Henton will be eligible to play immediately.

Football: Camp season is in full swing at Ohio State and over 1,200 campers were on hand today for the first day of all-position camp. There were also a good number of former Buckeyes on hand, including former Head Coach Earle Bruce. Check out the-Ozone report now on Columns and Features.

Wrestling: A number of OSU athletes are headed to the Olympic trials this month, but the one that has perhaps the best chance of representing the U. S. in the Beijing games is Buckeye heavyweight wrestler Tommy Rowlands. Kevin Schlosser is on hand in Las Vegas where the wrestling trials are being conducted this week and has filed a report on Rowlands. Check it out on Columns and Features.

Men's Hockey: Two new staff members have joined the Buckeye team. Former Buckeye player JB Bittner was hired as the video coordinator, while Jeff Salajko will be helping the team as a volunteer on the coaching staff. Bittner player for the Buckeyes from 02-05.
"JB is a former Buckeye captain and has lived through the experience of being a successful collegiate athlete," Markell said. "His enthusiasm and experience are a great addition to our program."
Jeff Salajko was a member of the Columbus Chill for three years while playing in the ECHL and he was a a three-time Player of the Year in that conference.
"Jeff came to us highly recommended," Markell said. "He is available to be with the team, especially the goalies, on a daily basis, which will be a help to our program. With his personality and goalie experience he is a wonderful addition to our coaching staff."

Baseball: Ohio State pitcher/outfielder J. B. Shuck was drafted in the sixth round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Houston Astros. As a pitcher Shuck led the Buckeyes in strikeouts last season with 76 and was the team leader in opponent batting average. OSU's opponents hit just .216 off Shuck last year. As an outfielder he was second on the team with a .356 batting average. He was also the team leader in runs scored with 47 and stolen bases with 22 steals in 26 attempts.
Shuck has one more year of eligibility with the Buckeyes should he decide not to sign this year. He was the seventh Big Ten player taken in this year's draft and is the 18th Buckeye to be drafted in the top-ten rounds since 1994.
Other recent OSU high draft picks include first-rounders Nick Swisher in the 2002 draft and Corey Lubke in the 2007 draft (supplemental pick). Second rounders include Ronnie Bourquin in 2006 and Mike Durant in 1991.

OSU Athletics: The National Football Foundation has named OSU Director of Athletics Gene Smith as its annual recipient of the John L. Toner Award. The award is granted annually to a director of athletics who has demonstrated superior administrative abilities and shown outstanding dedication to to college athletics and in particular college football.
Other award winners this year include Ohioan John Glen who received the Gold Medal Award, the organizations highest award, as well as T. philanthropist Boone Pickens and Bill Battle, founder of Collegiate Licensing.

OSU Athletics: The Ohio State Department of Athletics has just issued a release indicating that current OSU Director of Athletics Gene Smith is not interested in the now-vacant Notre Dame job.
Smith, a Notre Dame alumnus and former Notre Dame football player, is quoted in the release as saying that he has not been contacted by Notre Dame and that he is not interested in leaving Ohio State in favor of the Notre Dame position. Smith had been rumored a candidate for the position in part due to his Notre Dame connection as an alumnus.
"I have no desire to leave Ohio State," said Smith.
"I have the utmost respect for Notre Dame and great admiration for the university and its athletics department, but I will not be a candidate for the job there."

the-Ozone Announcement: We have it on very good authority that this is going to be a very, very good year for new books on the Buckeyes.
There are at least three books coming out in the next couple of months you're going to want. One of them is, of course, Jim Tressel's Winner's Manual published by Tyndale Press. That book releases on July 15, 2008. Coach Tressel will participate in eight book signings. Those locations and dates were announced today by Tyndale Press. They are as follows:
