For the second year in a row, the Buckeyes ended their regular season on a high note, knocking off arch-rival Michigan.
Things looked bad for Ohio State midway through the fourth quarter. A Garrett Rivas field goal had just extended the Wolverines’ lead to 21-12 with 7:49 to play in the game, and the Bucks knew they were running out of time.
That’s when Troy Smith led back-to-back scoring drives to secure his second straight win over Michigan.
The first drive ended with wide receiver Santonio Holmes diving into the end zone to cut the deficit to 21-19.
Then, in the final minute of the game, Smith avoided pressure and hit a leaping Anthony Gonzalez inside the Michigan 10.
Running back Antonio Pittman punched it into the end zone from there and OSU escaped with a 25-21 win and a share of the Big Ten championship.
This was the fourth win in five editions of The Game for OSU’s Jim Tressel.
