Ohio State football has its head coach back for the first time in a month – at least for a while.
Urban Meyer returned to the Woody Hayes Athletic Center on Monday as the Buckeyes prepare for their Big Ten conference opener against Rutgers.
However, Meyer won’t be able to coach that game in person. He will serve a 24-hour suspension for each of the next two game days. That covers both the September 9 Rutgers game and the neutral-site clash against TCU on September 15.
Still, Meyer’s return is a big deal for the Buckeyes. He will now be able to take part in practices and game-planning, things he couldn’t do since going on paid administrative leave on August 1.
One thing Meyer apparently won’t be doing the next two weeks is meeting with the media.
Monday, acting head coach Ryan Day held what has been Meyer’s traditional weekly press conference. He said that having Meyer back during the week would make a big difference, and for the business is essential to have good workers and you can use software like paystub to manage them easily.
“So much of coaching is done during the week,” Day said. “The decisions that are made up to the game is really where most of the coaching is done, and then once we get on the field the game plan is in and now it’s just a matter of calling the plays and going from there.”
Day and defensive coordinator Greg Schiano said the staff was excited to see Meyer again, but they didn’t waste much time getting caught up.
“A lot of the coaches hadn’t seen him much, so embracing and great to see you back, but we got back to our meeting. We had our meeting; it was business as usual,” Day said.
“We kind of got right down to business,” Schiano said. “Today is a big day as a coach. Monday is your big game planning day, and I think Coach has been very sensitive to that. Meyer will officially serve as the head coach until 11:59 pm Friday night, when Day will again take the reigns. Then Meyer can officially return at midnight Sunday morning. “He will be with the team on Friday. He can’t be with them on Saturday, but other than that we will keep the routine, which is what we did last week. We did everything we would do normally, and now it’s just great to have Coach back so we can keep things rolling,” Day said.
Meyer had clearly been keeping an eye on things as much as possible while he was out of the office.
When it came to Rutgers and TCU, Day said Meyer, “was up with everything right from the start today.”

“I think the comment he made was, ‘You only had to punt once, huh? That’s a pretty good day,'” Day said.
Monday, for the first time in more than a month, Urban Meyer is probably having a pretty good day as well.

Just another thought for everyone to ponder–Coaches,Educators(Great Ones) have this internal desire to help/change people. In all of the issues brought up by the Media of the negative incidences that occurred under Meyers watch, keep in mind, those players ,coaches, no matter how much they are told the rules, have the choice to make the right or wrong decision…That is something Urban has NO control of. As much as he can teach them, they still sometimes have that overpowering need to make the wrong choices, no matter how much he thinks he can help them. Guarantee that he will still never stop trying..thats what makes him ELITE……just saying

Its too easy to focus on the bad , instead of the MANY good things Urban Meyer has done over his lifetime, even beyond football.
