Ted Ginn Ohio State Michigan 2004 The Game football punt return touchdown

One year after the Wolverines killed the Buckeyes’ hopes of an outright Big Ten championship in Ann Arbor, Ohio State got to return the favor in Columbus.

Jim Tressel’s unranked Bucks shocked No. 7 Michigan, 37-21, handing the Wolverines their first Big Ten loss of the year and forcing them to share the conference crown with Iowa.

The Buckeyes struck quickly, on a 68-yard bomb from Troy Smith to Anthony Gonzalez just over a minute into the game.

However, Michigan answered right back, taking a 14-7 lead after the first quarter.

Ohio State would tie things back up again on a short touchdown sneak by Smith, and took a 20-14 lead into the half.

But the biggest play came on special teams. Just after halftime, Ted Ginn fielded a punt, danced for a moment, and the jetted up the left sidelines for a back-breaking score.

The Bucks outscored the Wolverines 27-0 in the middle two quarters, and by the time Michigan woke up, it was too late.
